Seth Gordon Peterson of Ferron has been found guilty of murder after a three-day jury trial in Seventh District Court.
Peterson was originally charged with two counts of aggravated murder, one count of attempted aggravated murder, one count of aggravated robbery, and one count of failure to stop at the command of police.
Peterson entered not guilty pleas on each of the five felony charges at a hearing in April of 2017.
The charges stem from an incident Nov. 2, 2016 that shocked the Carbon-Emery community when Peterson’s mother, 45-year old Susan Peterson, and his brother, 23-year old James Peterson were shot and killed at a ranch west of SR-10 and north of the Hiawatha Road. Two hunting rifles were found at the scene.
The jury returned guilty verdicts on one charge of aggravated murder, a reduced charge of manslaughter, attempted aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and failure to stop at the command of police.
Sentencing has been set for Feb. 7, 2018.
