John W. Pell


WELLINGTON – John W. Pell, age 72, died May 3, 2004 at Castleview Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 2, 1932 in Fruita, Colo. to Elmer Royal and Bertha Pearl Groves Pell. Married Phyllis Cooper May 2, 1955 in Raton, N. M.
Longtime resident of Wellington. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a tree trimmer contractor for Utah Power and Light. He had a special love for his grandchildren. John enjoyed farming, horses, leather work and woodworking. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by wife, Phyllis; daughter, Meloday Pell; two sons, Bruce Pell and Edward (JayLynn) Pell; three grandsons and one granddaughter, L.J., J.D., Bobbie and Garrit Pell, all of Wellington; brother, Earl (Lynette) Pell, Craig Colo.; sister, Shirley (Calvin) Clements, Grand Junction, Colo. Preceded in death by parents; son, Darrell; and two brothers, Arnold and William Pell.
Graveside service is Fri., May 7, 11 a.m., Wellington City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service.

Nick Thomas


HELPER – Nick Thomas, our loving father, left this mortal existence on Tues., May 4, 2004.
Dad was born Nov. 23, 1907 in Garfield, to Anton Tomlenovich and Mary Simonich. He spent most of his life in Carbon County where he met and married Fern Stevenson.
At age 14 he began working in the coal mines and later joined the Highway Patrol from which he retired. Dad was instrumental in organizing the UMWA in the county and active in the Democratic Party, working for both local and state candidates. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a very caring and generous person to all he knew.
His sons, Bob (Dolores), Houston, Texas; Mike, Spring Glen; daughter, Saundra (Jim) Herriman; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren survive him. His beloved wife and daughters, Donna and Nedra preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Sat., May 8, 1 p.m., at the Helper LDS Stake Center. A viewing will be from 11:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Shriner’s or Primary Childrens Hospitals or Make-A-Wish Foundation would be appreciated.

Janet Frankie Hancock Hurst


SCOFIELD – Robert “Bobby” M. Hennings, age 59, passed away May 9, 2004 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born July 29, 1944 in Pratt, Kan., to William Patrick and Annie Zdunich Hennings. Married Peggy Oviatt July 2, 1994 in Scofield.
Bobby was a great athlete and he enjoyed playing and coaching many sports. He grew up in Copperton and later retired from Kennecott Copper in 1984.
His greatest love and enjoyment was his home in Scofield, where he and Polar rode up and greeted everyone on the four-wheeler. Bobby made sure that everyone felt welcome at Scofield.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hennings, Scofield; daughter, Jamie (Mike) Dobecki, Sandy; son, Matt (Jennie) Hennings, Seal Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alyshia, Taylor Ann, Mikey, Jake, Riley and Noah; and his special companion, Polar. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at a later date in Scofield.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

Janet Frankie Hancock Hurst


CASTLE DALE-Janet Frankie Hancock Hurst, 72, passes away on Fri., April 30, 2004, at her home in Castle Dale. Janet was the oldest of three girls and one brother. She was born to Frank Daily and Thelma Blackley Hancock on July 2, 1929 in Pleasant Grove. Janet married Roy “Bud” W. Hurst on Dec. 18, 1948 in Provo, where they made their home. They raised three sons and two daughter.
Janet was very active in the LDS church where she served in many callings ranging from Cub Scout leader to Stake Relief Society President. She had many jobs in the community in addition to being a very busy and special mother and wife. She worked at Provo Nursing Home for about 12 years and Utah Valley Regional Hospital for 22 years. In 1999, Janet moved to Castle Dale where she lived until her death. Janet was the best mother that anyone could ever have. She was full of love, compassion and patience. She never knew a stranger and she was the prime example of what a mother, mother-in-law and grandmother should be. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Janet did all she could for her family and was very proud of all of them.
Survived by two sons, Michael and wife Toni Hurst, Shawn and wife Julie Hurst, daughter Sherrie Cammack, all of Castle Dale, daughter Denise Brown of Orangeville, and a daughter-in-law Susan Hurst of Orem. Also survived by 30 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, sister Joan Holmes of Springville, and brother-in-law Tom and wife Louise Hurst of Nevada. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Ricky C. Hurst, sister Donna Graff, brother Ronald, two brothers-in-law and her husbands parents Tom and Nellie Hurst. Janet is now reunited with her husband and family whom she has missed so very much.
Funeral services were held on Mon., May 3, 2004, 10 a.m. at the 8th North LDS Chapel, 165 West 800 North, Castle Dale. Burial was in the Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Olga Rodosh


SUNNYSIDE/COLUMBIA – Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and source of strength and guidance, surrounded by her loving family, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Mon., May 3, 2004 in Salt Lake City.
Olga was born Oct. 4, 1909 in Trieste, Italy to Antoine and Kathryn Mervar. She came to America at the age of 16 and settled briefly in Butte, Mont. with her mother and stepather, Frank Kosmatine, where she met her future husband, Martin Rodosh. They were married Dec. 17, 1929 in Salt Lake City at the Cathedral of the Madeleine Catholic Church
They lived in many of the Carbon County coal mining towns, from Kenilworth to Sego, finally settling in Sunnyside and Columbia for 40 plus years. That union of marriage brought a son, Martin, Jr.; daughters, Mary Ann, Judy, Dawn; and step-daughter, Rose. In addition to being a wonderful and loving mother and wife, Olga, also worked at the East Carbon School Cafeteria and was an active parishioner at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon. Olga had a great sense of humor. She loved her flowers and the ocean. But most of all she loved her family, especially the children. For Olga her family was everything, the center of her life.
When Martin, Sr. passed away Aug. 10,1965 she moved to Salt Lake City, where she was employed at the LDS Hospital for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Slovenia Lodge 168 in Helper, and a parishioner of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Holladay.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Ann (Burton) Reynolds, Ventura, Calif.; Judy (Jack) Reese, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; Dawn (Jack) Foreman, Salt Lake City, daughter-in-law, Mary Kathryn Rodosh, Las Vegas, Nev.; and nephew, Louie (Angelina) Rados, Roseville, Calif. Her legacy includes, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, one great-nephew and one great-great-granddaughter. Olga was preceded in death by parents, husband, son, stepdaughter, nephew, son-in-law and great-grandson.
Special heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Garden Terrace Facility Sunflower Court Nurses and CareAides for their personal concern, compassion and outstanding care given to Olga and her family during these difficult final days. We wish to also thank Jessica Maher of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Parish for the spiritual care and support given to Olga and the family. These individuals are true angels among us.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Fri., 11 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane. Vigil service will be held Thursday, 7 p.m., where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. also at the church. Burial, Price City Cemetery, 595 East 400 North, Price, under the direction of Neil O’Donnell and Sons.

Anna Allred


CLEVELAND-Anna Adalaid Curtis Allred, born April 6, 1917 on Cedar Mountain in Cleveland, passed away May 8, 2004 at her home. Anna is the daughter of Guy and Elloweas Bradley Curtis. She married Doyle Lawayne Allred of Cleveland on Feb. 3, 1936, later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Anna raised eight children and many others that have always come back. She loved to crochet, sew, cook and quilt. She was always at Doyle’s side on the farm or working with cows and riding horses. Her family was her pride and joy with her eternal companion by her side. Their greatest accomplishment together was Nielson & Allred Rodeo Stock, where they traveled throughout the state and were honored at the Black Diamond Stampede and Cleveland Days as Grand Marshals. We now say goodbye to a legend and a dear friend whose unconditional love will live in our hearts forever. Anna will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Patsy) Allred, Cleveland, Royce (Elaine) Allred, Cleveland, Bill (Dixie) Allred, Cleveland, Roana (Bus) Rich, Cleveland, Arch (Marilyn) Allred, Cleveland, Reba (Marvin) Hansen, Elmo, Pat Allred, Ferron, Leta (David) Robertson, Orangeville, and Duane (Amy) Cowley, Nevada; 50 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Doyle, parents, two brothers, five sisters and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wed. May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland LDS Chapel. A viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Cleveland LDS Church and also one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

Leola Oveson Guymon


LEHI-Leola Oveson, of Lehi, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and best friend was called home on May 8, 2004. Leola had just celebrated her 90th birthday the week before. She was born April 29, 1914 in Cleveland to Clarence Donavon Oveson and Anna Johannah Johnson, the third child of nine children. She married Clell A. Guymon on June 13, 1935 in the Manti Temple, they were later divorced. Leola was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was loved by all who knew her. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She spent countless hours teaching her grandchildren to fish. She enjoyed working in her garden and could make anything grow. She is survived by her children, Arden (Brenda) Guymon, of Mesquite, Nev. Leora Oman, of Lehi and Floyd (Faye) Guymon, of West Jordan, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and three sisters. Preceded in death by her parents, daughter Darlene Wayman, grandson Melvin Dee Wayman, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Sat., May 15 at 11 a.m. at the Lehi Utah Stake Center, 200 North Center, Lehi. Family and friends may call Fri., May 14 from 6-8 p.m. at the Chapel located at 300 W. 1149 N. Lehi. (just off State Street) and from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to the funeral. (Note: Funeral and Friday night viewing are at different places.) Interment, Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 N. 400 E.
