The Emery High Lady Spartans unexpectedly finished their season with a home loss to the Carbon Dinos in the first round of the Utah 3-A play-offs last Wednesday.  Final score of the game was 2-1 as the Dino defense kept the Spartans in check most of the game.  Carbon scored a first half goal on a penalty kick and then a second half goal on another free kick from midfield that bounced over the head of the Spartan goal keeper.
Emery scored in the second half with Jocee Funk being responsible for the goal.  Emery was the second seeded team out of their region while the Dinos were the sixth ranked team from their region.
Emery’s region won just one match out of five games on the opening day as South Sevier lost to Delta 7-0, Grand lost to Juab 4-0 and Richfield lost to Judge 6-0.  Manti defeated Summit Academy 3-0 for the lone victory.
The second round was played on Saturday and Manti defeated Grantsville 2-1 and North Sanpete defeated Carbon 2-0 as those two teams advance to Jordan High School this week along with Morgan and Judge.
Manti will face Morgan with the Hawks facing Judge Memorial.  The winners will then play for the 3-A championship at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Morgan and Manti each won their region while North Sanpete finished third and Judge finished second.
