Keith Harris Winn

MAGNA/FERRON-Our beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, husband, and friend, Keith Harris Winn passed away Aug. 12, 2004 in Salt Lake City surrounded by his loved ones following a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born Nov. 19, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Keith Dean and Elizabeth Harris Winn and raised in Magna.
Keith was an inspiration to everyone in his battle with his illness. His final three years with us were bittersweet, and despite seemingly impossible odds, Keith lived life to the fullest. He retired from Kennecott Copper. Keith was happiest when he was working with his horses and cows and being with his family. He was an active member of the LDS church.
Survived by his best friend, wife, and sweetheart, Dolly; children, Ryan (KaeLynn) Winn, Rodney H. (Jana) Winn, Amy (Joe) Jolley, Brandon (Magun) Winn, and Holly Winn (Nick Sargent); the mother of his children, Jeanne Gillett; parents; eight grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Kathy Sue (Grant) Jenkins, Larry (Jolene) Winn, Melody (Merlin) Weber, Heidi (Gil) Bowden, Sherry (Dennis) Worwood, Travis (Julie) Winn, Kash (Valerie) Winn, and Cody (Maria) Winn; and step children.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Mon., Aug. 16, 2004 in the Ferron Stake Center, 555 South 400 West, Ferron. Friends called Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna and Monday 11:30 a.m. -12:45 p.m. at the church in Ferron. Interment was in the Ferron Cemetery.
James Williams
PRICE – Our beloved brother and uncle, Jim Williams, passed away Aug. 13, 2004 of cancer while surrounded by his family.
He was born in the coal mining camp of Sweets in Carbon County on Jan. 27, 1931 to Robert H. and Jessie Oviatt Williams.
His family moved to Standard in 1940 and in 1941 they moved to Price where he resided until his death. Jim graduated from Carbon High School in 1948, joining the Navy that year and serving as a sonar man on the U.S.S. T.E. Chandler destroyer where he continued to serve during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. While Jim may have been wheelchair bound for 52 years, he always has a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He enjoyed watching BYU sports, old westerns, playing Yahtzee and cards with his lady friends at the Heirloom Inn, and teasing his nieces and the children, earning him the nickname, “The Big Tease.” Jim loved visiting with people and he had many friends. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church, the American Legion and a past member of the Lion’s Club.
He is survived by brother, Boyd R. (Rosemary) Williams of Price; nieces, Leslie Roye of Price and her children, Lindsay and Vance Roye; and Linda (Scott) Green of Farmington and their son, Travis. Preceded in death by parents; infant brother, Peter; and great-nephew, Harley Green.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the loving care provided by Shauna and her staff at the Heirloom Inn and Rick and his staff at Rocky Mountain Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Jim’s name to Rocky Mountain Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Graveside service Wed., Aug. 18, 11 a.m., at the Price City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m.
Thomas Christensen
PRICE – Thomas Adron (Bud) Christensen passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Aug. 15, 2004.
He was born Oct. 3, 1918 in Chester, to Thomas Arthur Christensen and Katherine Amelia Grames Christensen. He married Lena Belle Kofford Feb. 27, 1961. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti LDS Temple on June 30, 1965.
To his family and friends, Bud was a hard working and gentle man. He loved working with his hands farming and riding horses. Bud served in World War II and was stationed in Victorville, Calif. For many years, Bud and his family ran a ranch in Nine Mile Canyon and later he served on the Carbon Stake Welfare Farm for the LDS Church. He worked for many years for Price City Sanitation, but he was a farmer at heart. He leaves behind a great legacy of hard work and the importance of family, love of country, love for his children and grandchildren, and love and respect for his eternal companion.
Bud is survived by loving wife, Lena of Price; sons, Clarence Christensen, Dennis Christensen and Jerry Christensen of Price; Leslie Christensen of Craig, Colo.; Gary (Lorraine) Christensen of West Valley City; daughter, Karen (Kirk) Sitterud of Orangeville; brother, Dale (Margaret) Christensen of Price; brother-in-law, Dan (Florence) Kofford, Talmage; 29 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Kay Houskeeper and Alice Bentley; daughter, Christine Tharp; daughter-in-law, Jane Christensen; sons, Lloyd Thomas Christensen and Buddy Lee Christensen.
Funeral services will be Fri., Aug. 20, 11 a.m., at Price 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 545 East 400 North. Viewing will be held Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South, Price and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Price City Cemetery.
Frank Compagni Jr.
PRICE – Our loving and devoted husband, father, brother and papa, Frank “Chico” Compagni Jr., 62, passed away Aug. 11, 2004 while living his dream in Mesquite, Nev.
Chico was born Jan. 4, 1942 in Sunnyside, to Frank and Della (Farlaino) Compagni Sr. He married the love of his life, Elaine Kennick at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price on June 13, 1964.
Chico was truly the finest dad, grandpa, son and brother anyone could ever wish to have. He demonstrated his love by spending time with his family and frequent “commo-checks” with the bros. He was a brilliant, quick-witted beam of light with a smile and sense of humor that brought joy and comfort to those who knew him. He made friends with everyone he met and had a close group of friends that he treated like family.
Chico graduated from East Carbon High School in 1960 and attended Carbon College. He excelled at baseball, football, basketball and track. As a catcher, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and played minor league baseball in California.
He joined the U.S. Air Force and retired from the National Guard. He was an active member of the Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of many civic organizations including the Elks Lodge, Stella d’ America Italian Lodge, Slovenian Home and the Carbon Country Club.
His favorite pastimes included spoiling his four grandchildren, visiting his Mesquite retreat and golfing, especially with Elaine. He enjoyed watching sports and was a devout Yankee, University of Utah, and Notre Dame fan.
Survived by loving wife, Elaine; children, Frank (Kim) Compagni and Heidi (John) Axelsen; grandchildren, Nicholas, Katie, J.C., and Sarah; father, Frank Compagni Sr., sister, Jeanette Smyth; brothers, George (Su), Charles (Lynda) and Van (Valerie) Compagni; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by mother, Della Farlaino Compagni; and brothers-on-law, Mike Smyth and Larry Kennick.

Andrew Smith Jr.
EAST CARBON – The life of Andrew Jackson Smith came to a close Aug. 15, 2004 at the age of 92 after a long illness.
Born Sept. 1, 1911 in Milburn, Okla., to Andrew Jackson Smith and “Sally” Sarah Almeda Willis, he was one of 11 children, three boys and eight girls. Married Lillian Mae Burch Sept. 2, 1933 in Grand Junction, Colo. and to their union were born seven children.
Jack was a faithful husband to his wife until she passed away Nov. 23, 1976 and a good father and provider for his family. Longtime resident of East Carbon where he was a member of the East Carbon Community Church. Retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Horse Canyon Local 8003, where he also served as District 22 Secretary/Treasurer for four years. Member Price Elks Lodge 1550. He was instrumental in bringing the hospital and credit union to East Carbon and starting Little League baseball in Carbon County. “Jack” excelled in baseball and was catcher in semi pro baseball for Satchel Paige. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by four sons and two daughters, Robert Jack (Marvelle) Smith, Grand Junction, Colo.; Willis Raymond (Joy) Smith, Montrose, Colo.; Phillip Roy (Angela) Smith, Cedar City; James Edward (Colleen) Smith, Bennion; Donna Marie (Edwin) Marolf, Montrose, Colo.; Lily Lucille McManus, East Carbon; sister, Olle Thompson, Westfir, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service Fri., Aug. 20, 1 p.m., East Carbon Community Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church in East Carbon Friday one hour prior to services. Graveside service, Friday, 4 p.m., Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
Lois McCourt
COLUMBIA- Lois Staker McCourt, our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Aug. 9, 2004 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in a log cabin on Nov. 17, 1918 in Lawrence to Alden O. Staker and Annie Margaret Thomas. She attended schools in Lawrence and Huntington, where she was a member of the speech and debate teams. She took top honors and won the Emery County speech contest.
On Dec. 24, 1937, she married Ivan D. McCourt in Lawrence. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.
For 66 years they made their home in Columbia (East Carbon) where they had many great friends and neighbors.
Lois was a member of the LDS Church, where she was a Relief Society and Primary teacher. She was also the ward organist and organist for other organizations for many years.
She loved to play the piano and sing. She filled the home with beautiful music.
She made many, many beautiful afghans, quilts and embroidery items.
She loved her garden, especially the flower garden. She loved to can the produce from the fruit trees and vegetable garden.
Lois was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in the Las Vegas Calico Chapter.
She was a loving mother to Connie and Donald. There are many good memories of coming home every day to special baked breads, cinnamon rolls and cookies. She made a very special home for her whole family to enjoy.
Preceded in death by her parents; sister, LaVern Mathie; brothers, Lloyd, Ted and Reed Staker. She is survived by husband, Ivan; daughter, Connie (Bill) Webb; son, Donald (Connie) McCourt; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Fri. Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. at the East Carbon LDS Chapel.
Friends called on Thurs. Aug. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 680 E. 100 S. in Price.
A viewing was also held at the chapel prior to the service.
Internment was in the Cliffview Cemetery at 2 p.m.
