Brandon Flores

On Thursday, August 3, Brandon Flores’ will be presenting a program concerning the GEAR UP program that assists students to attend college and how it works with public education to do so.
Flores’ enthusiasm for the Gear Up program is contagious. So contagious that it catches on like a bug, but a good bug. He says the end game is simple.
“Education is the pathway out of poverty,” he states. “That’s the whole goal.”
GEAR UP is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a seven-year federal grant program that provides services and assistance for economically disadvantaged students to help them successfully graduate from high school and prepare for college.
Flores is the director of the GEAR UP program for Utah State University Eastern, and what he and his advisers have been doing in the high schools in the two county area is having a positive impact on kids’ lives.
The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center Alumni Room on the campus of USU Eastern. The program lasts one hour.
Light refreshments will be served and the public is welcome.
