The Huntington Library hosted their summer story time throughout the month of June. They concluded their program with a bike rodeo. The Emery County Sheriff’s Office visited the library and taught the children about bike safety. Deputy Tyson Huntington said they want to help keep people safe and keep kids safe on bikes. They stressed the importance of wearing a bike helmet. Deputy Huntington said, “You need to wear a helmet to protect your head from injury. Make sure you have the proper fit for your helmet.”
He asked the children what else they could do to stay safe. They suggested wearing knee and elbow pads. They said to avoid loose fitting pants that could get caught in the chain of the bike. They said to wear sturdy shoes while bike riding.
Deputy Huntington said for the children to watch out for cars and to make sure the brakes on their bikes are in proper working order. Bike riders also need to be on the alert for dogs in yards or roaming around, dogs like to chase bikes.
After the bike safety lesson the children rode their bikes around some cones set up in the parking lot so they could practice turning and stopping their bikes.  After the bike lesson they played games and ate ice pops.
