Lee Nelson will be at San Rafael Junior High on April 23 for three assemblies. There will be one at 9 a.m., one at 10 a.m. and one at 10:50 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. Books will be available for purchase at the assemblies.
Nelson was born in Logan. As a boy, he followed his father on fishing expeditions in Logan Canyon where Right Hand and Temple Forks enter the main stream.
He attended college in California and Utah, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in business (MBA). He spent two and a half years as a missionary for the LDS Church in Southern Germany.
He was a public relations and advertising copywriter before his first book was published in 1979.
Nelson is well known for his authentic research. He killed a buffalo from the back of a galloping horse as part of his research for one of his books.
He criss-crossed the flood-swollen waters of the Green River on horseback while writing about the Ute Chief Walkara. He also took up roping while documenting the early cowboy life of Butch Cassidy.
His works include: The Ephraim Chronicles; Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer Among the Indians (with Mark Twain); Favorite Stories by Lee Nelson, and The Storm Testament series, Butch Cassidy, Porter Rockwell, Storm Gold, Black Hawk Journey, Moriah Confession and the Wasatch Savage.
