Students and adults encouraged to come to summer lunch at all elementary schools in Emery County

By Emery County School District

The Emery School District Child Nutrition Program is excited to offer summer lunch in all six of the elementary schools from June 4 through July 20  with no lunch on July 4. However, in order to sustain the program, adults and children will have to participate.
According to Jeneane Warren, Child Nutrition supervisor for the district, “We need your help to keep this program in our communities. We only receive funding for this program based on the meals we serve.” That funding comes from the US Department of Agriculture from the import tax on foods coming into America from other countries.
Menus will be sent home at the end of the school year and posted in all post offices. “It is a great opportunity for your student to foster relations with school friends and keep those relationships going throughout the summer,” Supervisor Warren said. “Bring your family for some fun, food and reading.”
Lunch will run from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm week days at the following schools: Book Cliff Elementary in Green River, Ferron Elementary, Castle Dale Elementary, Cottonwood Elementary in Orangeville, Huntington Elementary, and Cleveland Elementary.
Lunch for elementary-aged children is free, and adults may purchase a meal for $4.50. “Participation is appreciated,” the supervisor said, adding that “it helps our programs.” Adult meals are subsidized, and the price includes the cost of food and labor to produce the meal.
The program sponsors are looking forward to seeing children and adults at local lunch sites this summer.
