Utah State Department of Heritage and Arts has offered grants to commemorate the ending of WWI and to encourage Utahns to recognize the impact of WWI in their communities.
With this in mind the Emery County Archives has partnered with the American Legions/Emery County Historical Preservation Commission and the Emery County Historical Society and with the help of the youth and community will be locating, cleaning and repairing the Markers of our WWI Veterans in the following local cemeteries.
Elmo cemetery – locating the markers on May 1 and 2. Cleaning the markers, May 5 at 10 am.
Cleveland cemetery – locating the markers on May 1 and 2. Cleaning the markers May 5 at 10:15 am.
Huntington cemetery – locating the markers on May 1 and 2. Cleaning the markers, May 5 at 1 pm.
Castle Dale cemetery – locating the markers, May 15 and 16. Cleaning the markers May 19 at 10 am.
Orangeville cemetery – locating the markers May 22 and 23. Cleaning the markers May 26 at 10 am.
Ferron cemetery – locating the markers July 10 and 11. Cleaning the markers July 14 at 10 am
Emery cemetery – locating the markers on July 10 and 11. Cleaning the markers July 14 at 1 pm.
There will be a closing event on Nov. 8. An Open House will be held at the Old Emery County Court House on Main Street at 6:30 pm.
Displayed will be artifacts from WWI from the archives special collections such as soldiers uniforms, photo albums and letters written home from these brave men and women. Also, photos showcasing the hard work of our youth and community in honoring these Veterans. Refreshments will be served. The entire community is invited.
