At no time last week was there a single doubt about who would win the two Emery High Lady Spartan basketball games as they played two teams that
had just one win on the season between them. On Tuesday night in Mt
Pleasant the Spartans raced to a 26-4 first quarter lead and then breezed
home to win by the score of 79-25. On Thursday night at home in the
Spartan Center, Emery scored the first 14 points of the game, won
the first quarter 32-3 and then won the game 81-18 over the Manti
Templars.
Lainee Jensen, the lone senior on this team, found her outside shot magic
and connected on six 3-pointers in each game as she was the leading scorer
in each game, 26 against the Hawks and 20 against the Templars. Megan
Jensen scored 19 against Manti, pulled down 9 rebounds and had 3 assists
in limited action. Jensen had 7 points against North Sanpete.
Also scoring in the North Sanpete game were Kinlee Toomer with 20 points,
Bailey Huggard with 6 points, Morgan Hurdsman with 4 points, Hailey Jo
Allred with 7 points, Jo Jo Peterson with 3 points, Brileigh Curtis with 4
points and Bethany Justice with 2 points. Also scoring against Manti were
Kinlee with 8 points, Kacelyn Toomer finally saw action again after
tweaking an ankle and scored 5 points, Huggard with 6 points, Hurdsman
with 10 points, Makieya Bertuzzi with 7 points and Allred, Peterson and
Curtis with 2 points each. Kinlee also had 6 rebounds and 4 assists,
Kacelyn had 3 assists, Huggard had 6 rebounds and Hurdsman had 5 assists.
Bertuzzi had 4 steals.
Emery will play Grand at the Spartan Center this Tuesday as region 15
action continues and then the Spartans will travel to Blanding to face San
Juan this Thursday night. Grand is 2-2 in region play and 6-7 on the
season while San Juan is also 2-2 in region action and 8-4 on the season.
