Snowmobile Safety and You


Utah’s snowmobile class will be held March 17 at 6 p.m. at the county building located at 75 East Main, Castle Dale. Utah law states that children from ages 8-15 must be certified to operate a snowmobile on public lands. Register at Emery County Recreation Office located at 75 South 400 East in Castle Dale. Foodhandlers Workshop


The Southeastern Utah District Health Department will be conducting two food handlers workshops March 25 at the health department in Castle Dale (25 West Main Street). The first at 4 p.m. and the next at 7 p.m. For more information call Terri Bennett at 381-2252.

Scout A Rama


The Buckhorn District will hold their annual Scout A Rama on May 1 at the Emery County Recreation Building from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. All cub scouts, scouts, Varsity and Ventures are encouraged to have a booth. For more information plan to attend the March Round Table on March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Utah Stake Center. All cub scouts are also encouraged to enter the poster contest.

SEUOHVC Spring Poker Ride


A Swell Cure for Cabin Fever spring poker ride, sponsored by Emery County Recreation and SouthEastern Utah Off Highway Vehicle Club will be held March 27. This ride will be held in Utah’s scenic San Rafael. For information, call 435-384-2264, 435-381-2493, 435-381-2244 or 435-286-2258

Ferron Reading Program


Ferron Elementary PTO encourages all residents of Ferron to help them to read one million pages. As you read for work or leisure, keep track of the pages you read. Record keeping forms are available at Ferron Elementary, Ferron Library and Ferron City Hall during business hours. Forms may be returned to the same locations. Totals will be recorded every Friday and posted on the marquee in front of the school. For information contact the school at 384-2383.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and , consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Biking by Choice


Biking by Choice is sponsoring a bicycle ride through Utah to remind Utahns about the Utah donor registry. The ride will begin on the Idaho border in late April and rides will be on the weekends to continue through the state. A main event ride will begin in Huntington and will continue for six days through the heart of Utah. Emery County Fair Entries


Begin thinking about entries for the Emery County Fair exhibits. Now is the time to start. This year’s theme is “Building Bridges.” We encourage everyone to join in and submit an entry. Prizes will be awarded this year. The exhibits will become a thing to remember. There are many talented people in this county and the exhibits in last year were among the best in the state. Help keep the number of exhibits growing and improving.
