At approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning on SR-10 in Huntington a coal truck overturned. The truck was headed northbound when it left the roadway and overturned down the embankment. The coal spilled out onto the lawn of the DesertEdge Christian Chapel. The driver was transported to the Castleview Hospital with a cut on his head.
It’s not known why the driver left the roadway and the accident is under investigation. Highway patrol trooper Boe Minchey said it appeared he drifted to the right side of the road and was unable to bring the truck back to the roadway. The truck turned onto its side.
Emery County Sheriff’s deputies Egan Smith and Mike Grange are on scene helping with traffic control and accident clean-up. Detective John Barnett is on scene to help with the investigation.
The coal truck belongs to DCL Transportation out of Helper.
