Habitat for Humanity Work Day
A HFH work day will be held Oct. 9 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring your gloves, shovel, hat, jacket and wear you sunscreen to participate in the day of work on the new house. The location is 680 North Orange Court in Castle Dale.
Camp Dale DUP
Camp Dale DUP will hold its monthly meeting at the Castle Dale Senior Citizens Center on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.
ATV Safety Class
An ATV safety class will be held on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the county building, 75 East Main Street, Castle Dale. Pre-registration is a must and will be held at the Emery County Recreation building. Utah State law requires every child between the ages of 8-16, be certified to drive an ATV on public lands. For more information call Mark Williams at 381-2493 or Emery County Rec at 381-2108.
Ferron Elementary Halloween Carnival
Ferron Elementary PTO will hold their annual Halloween Carnival on Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the school. There will be food and games for the entire family. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required. For more information call 384-3117.
Emery Animal Shelter
Emery Animal Shelter is located a 470 West Hiway 29 in Castle Dale. Animals are ready for adoption: female Irish setter mix puppy, 3-4 months old and a male, 9 month old cow dog, black and white; kittens, male, 4 months old, white; male, 4 months old, tabby gray; male, adult, brown and white, already neutered. Program in the Park
The Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition is sponsoring the sixth annual Program in the Park on Oct. 13 from noon-1 p.m. at the Castle Dale City Park. This is a free program and lunch will be provided. Guest speaker will be Dolly Martinez, a domestic violence survivor. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held on the second floor of the county building (old courthouse).
Farm Bureau Dinner and Business Meeting
The Emery County Farm Bureau business meeting and annual banquet will be held on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Citizens Center. Castle Dale City
Look for the secondary water to be turned off on approximately Oct. 15. Castle Dale City’s fall burn dates are Sept. 15-Oct. 15. You must obtain a burn permit before you burn. The permits are free. Fall beautification is during the same time period. If you need help with a big item, please call city hall. There is also a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those indiviuals who are responsible for the vandalism at the public restrooms. Call 381-2115.
Bazaar and Bake Sale
Desert Edge Christian Chapel will sponsor a Bazaar and Bake Sale on Oct. 28-30. Thursday and Friday, 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The bazaar items are new handcrafted items. Desert Edge is located at 500 South Main in Huntington.
Christmas Festival
A Christmas Festival will be held Nov. 5-6 at the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale. There will be food, fun, booths, entertainment and crafts. Friday, 1-9 p.m.and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For information contact Jodi at 381-2222 or Darlene at 381-2504.
Postcards from Utah
Peshtigo Elementary’s fourth grade class is studying the regions of the United States. They are learning about each state’s landforms, environments and places of interest. They are asking for postcards from Utah showing what the state is like. A note on the back would be appreciated. Huntington 1st Ward Fall Get-together
The Huntington 1st ward fall get-together will be held Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Bear Creek Campground in the large pavilion. There will be games, a program and a roast pig dinner, including dessert and homemade root beer. Fun for all ages. Bring a potluck item. Everyone welcome.
Adult Education Program
The Emery County Adult Education Program will begin registering for the 2004-05 school year on Oct. 4. Registration will be held at the Emery County School District office, 170 North Main Street in Huntington. Classes will be held Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Adult High School facility, south of the seminary building. A copy of your transcripts is needed at time of registration. Utah Arts Council Aprenticeships

Huntington City Garbage Collection
They will be picking up garbage at the curb on Tuesday mornings. Place your garbage in bags, boxes or old garbage cans and place out on the curb until your new garbage can is delivered. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Pickup on the east side of town will begin at 7 a.m. and on the west side of town at 11 a.m.
Museum of the San Rafael
Joseph Venus has researched the prehistoric Fremont Indian culture. This has enabled him to paint with authenticity in his depictions of the Fremont people who lived in this area as early aw 300-600 A.D. The ancient artisans disappeared from the area by 1300 A.D.due to a severe drought. They left behind a multitude of pictures painted and etched on many of the canyon walls. This rock art can still be seen today in Venus’ paintings at the museum.

Huntington Fall Open Burn Period
Huntington City fall open burn period Sept. 18-Oct.16. Burn permits will be required and can be picked up at city hall .All burning must be done from 7 a.m -7 p.m. Cost to extinguish fires and fines may be imposed. Cleveland Burn Window
Cleveland Town fall burn dates are Sept. 18-Oct. 16. Only yard waste, such as leaves, branches and small trees can be burned. You must obtain a burn permit from the town hall or any fire department member before you burn.

Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be doing hearing screening tests throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who do not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Food Handler’s Classes
Food handler’s classes will be held Oct. 13, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8 at 9 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Healt Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Orangeville City’s burn permits are available for open burn Sept. 18-Oct. 16. Come into city hall for a burn permit before you burn. Individuals who do not obtain a burn permit may be subject to penalties.

Veterans Creative Arts Festival

Ascension St. Matthew’s Church

Educational Opportunity Center
The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid applications, college course selection and completing their GEDs, if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Eyeglasses for Lions Club
