Jim Elwell Libertarian Candidate for Utah State Treasurer I was raised in Brigham City, graduated from Box Elder High School, and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University. I cofounded and have run a successful manufacturing business in Salt Lake City, growing it from one to 54 employees in the last 20 years.
In my business I have worked extensively with Utah business regulations, local, state and federal tax laws, and numerous lawyers, accountants and auditors. I have learned how important fiscal control is to success, both in government and in business. I have been a member of the Libertarian Party for 13 years, and I believe government should play a limited role in our lives. However, the State Treasurer does not write or pass legislation, or sign it into law. The State Treasurer’s job is to ensure that tax dollars are spent as directed by statute. My political position on any specific issue should not and will not affect how I will perform the duties of Utah State Treasurer.
As your State Treasurer I will work hard to provide careful oversight, independent of the two major parties, into the financial affairs of the State of Utah. You elect Republicans and Democrats to decide where to spend your tax dollars. Do you really want them also signing the checks?
