DUP Pheasant Hunter’s Breakfast
The DUP Lily of the Valley Camp in Elmo is holding their annual pheasant hunter’s breakfast and dinner fund raising event on Nov. 6 and 13. Breakfast at 7-10 a.m., lunch 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at the DUP building, 100 East 60 South, Elmo.
Craft Fair at Huntington Elementary
The Huntington Elementary Craft Fair will be held in the school gym on Nov. 10 from 1-3 p.m. Seasonal handcrafted items are available.
Utah Farm Bureau Essay or Creative Story Contest
The 2004 Utah Farm Bureau Essay or Creative Story Contest entries are due to Joy Humphrey, Box 18, Orangeville, UT 84537, by Oct. 31. Complete contest rules are available from her. The contest theme is Home Grown in Utah. County winners will recieve a monetary prize and plaque.
USDA Emergency Loans
On Sept. 15, Secretary Veneman designated 20 counties in Utah eligible for Farm Service Agency emergency loans due to production losses. These losses were a result of drought, insects, damaging wind and heat, that occurred Jan. 1 and continuing. Applications can be picked up at the Emery/Carbon County FSA Office, 88 South 100 East, Castle Dale, or call 1-435-381-2300.
CEU Bread and Soup Night
CEUs Bread and Soup night will be held Nov. 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. All proceeds go to the Carbon County Food Bank.
Thanksgiving Musical Extravaganza
CEU Alumni Association is hosting a free Thanksgiving Musical Extravaganza on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. The program will feature the Huntington Glee Club, the Price College Institute Choir, Reverend David Velasquez and Earl Gunderson of East Carbon, and Sheree Fitzgerald of the Tabernacle Choir.
Emery Animal Shelter
Emery Animal Shelter is located a 470 West Hiway 29 in Castle Dale. Adorable animals are ready for adoption: kittens, six weeks old and up. three gray and white stipe, three gray and white short hair, one orange and white stripe. Puppies, 8 weeks old; three black and one tan Lab mix, 5 weeks old Irish setter mix female; adult gray terrier mix, male, neutered. Prices vary and all include spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. Driver Safety Class
An AARP driver safety class will be held on Nov. 5 at the Castle Dale Senior Center, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Defensive driving techniques, how to adjust your driving to age related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time will be taught. Most insurance companies will give a rate discount to those 55 and older who take the class. There is a minimal fee involved. For more information and to pre register call Carole Ziegler at 381-5023.
Veterans of Foreign Wars
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center on Nov. 18 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is free service to assist veterans in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits.
Genealogy and Family Heritage Jamboree
The Genealogy and Family Heritage Jamboree hold its 2005 conference in St. George at Dixie Convention Center. There will be 63 classes in seven tracks, exhibits and speakers. For more information visit www.cgslink.com.
Bazaar and Bake Sale
Desert Edge Christian Chapel will sponsor a Bazaar and Bake Sale on Oct. 28-30. Thursday and Friday, 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The bazaar items are new handcrafted items. Moon Eclipse
The Salt Lake Astronomical Society will open Harmons Observatory in the Stansbury Park Observatory Complex on Oct. 27 to allow the public to view a total eclipse of the moon, the first visible eclipse for three years. The comment period for the resource management plan, originally ending Oct. 15, has been extended 45 days, to end Nov. 29.
Gallery East at CEU
Gallery East presents and exhibition of the works of Brian Christensen, Bryon Draper and Peter Everett until Oct. 29. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Ferron Elementary Halloween Carnival
Ferron Elementary PTO will hold their annual Halloween Carnival on Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the school. There will be food and games for the entire family. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required. For more information call 384-3117.

Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be doing hearing screening tests throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who does not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Food Handler’s Classes
Food handler’s classes will be held Nov. 17 and Dec. 8 at 9 a.m., 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Ascension St. Matthew’s Church
The fall schedule for Ascension St. Matthew’s Church will be as follows: Sundays 9:30 a.m.-Sunday school for all ages; 10:30 a.m.-worship, followed by fellowship and refreshments with a potluck lunch on the first Sunday of each month. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Eyeglasses for Lions Club
The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Meet the Candidate
The Emery County Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet the Candidate luncheon on Oct. 27 at the Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center at noon.
County commissioner candidates will present their platforms and will answer questions. Republican candidate Commissioner Drew Sitterud and challenger Democratic candidate Gary Petty will be in attendance. The chamber welcomes everyone to attend to learn more about your candidates for county commission. Air Force Band Coming to Price
The United States Air Force Academy Band Stellar Brass will perform on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Price Civic Auditorium. Free tickets may be picked up at the Emery County Progress office located at 410 East Main Street in Castle Dale.
Information Meeting
The Emery County Economic Development council and the public lands department will host an informational meeting on responding to the BLMs resource management plan. It will be held in the county building at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16.
Junior Jazz signups Competition League
It’s time to sign up for Jr. Jazz Basketball. This year we would like to offer a competition league for all junior and senior high school players. There will be three age divisions. 7-8th grade, 9-10th grade and 11-12th grade. Anyone can play. The games will begin in November and go through the end of December. All players must sign-up as a team. Cost will be $30 per player. It is open to both boys and girls teams. In order to play in this league signup with Cindy Draper at 748-2235 byOct. 31.
Halloween Carnival
Castle Dale Elementary PTA will sponsor a Halloween carnival in the school gymnasium on Oct. 30 from 4-7 p.m. A trunk or treat will also be held in conjunction with the carnival.
For the regular season, signups will be Nov. 1 at Huntington Elem. Nov. 2-3 at the Recreation Center. The time will be 6-7:30 p.m. for all days. This year the 1-2 grades will be played on lower hoops. The 7-12th grade teams will be eligible to play a tournament at the District level. We would like to encourage all boys and girls to play.
