Castle Dale Library Space Camp activities

Beginning in January 2018, NASA began a year-long series of monthly topics, focusing on extending human presence in the Solar System. Each month will include themed outreach materials for your programs/exhibits. Castle Dale Library has signed up to present these programs to the community!
The Castle Dale Library holds “Space Camp” the first Thursday every month at 5 p.m. In February they discussed, “A Year of Education on the ISS (International Space Station). “
The NASA Museum Alliance provides a brief overview of the subject, and suggestions for the programs. The library has adapted it to meet their patron needs.
The NASA Museum Alliance began in 2003, as a response to staff at museums, science centers and planetariums who wanted access to the images, visualizations, and animations from the Mars Exploration Rovers. It has evolved into a community of informal science educators to whom the NASA Museum Alliance provides information on all things NASA.
Right now the library has life sized astronaut printouts for photos.
The Space Campers learned about Astronaut Joe Acaba, who at one time in his life was a High School Teacher. They watched Astronaut Joe Vande Hei read a story from space. He read the book: The next time you see a sunset by Emily Morgan.
They also watched some STEM videos regarding exercise and bone density, and performed an experiment that demonstrated the importance of having strong bones.
