Trustees from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office have been performing community service behind the scenes of the county. They recently helped put up the booths and awnings at the Heritage Days celebration in Huntington. They also helped put up awnings at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life held in Castle Dale on July 9-10. The trustees will be called out to help with preparations when the Emery County Fair comes to town on Aug. 3-7.
The trustees are under the direction of Lt. Bill Downard from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office. The trustees are inmates at the jail who have earned a place of trust. The trustees cook the meals for the other inmates and do a lot of the cleaning at the jail. They do the laundry and other jobs. When a project comes up out in the community the trustees can help with it during times when other people are not present.
In the fall, the trustees will help with a cleaning sweep of the San Rafael Swell where they pick-up roadside trash along the county roads on the Swell.
