Pat Jones of Jones Ace Hardware accepted the award for business of the year from Castle Dale. He said his grandfather was from Sunnyside and operated a meat business and raised produce which he also sold in Emery County. His family purchased property in Castle Dale and set up a feed operation. His uncle and dad helped with the operation. Eventually his dad bought out his uncle and remodeled the business.
Pat was just out of college when his father was trying to sell the business. There were a couple of people interested in buying it, but they couldn’t come up with the money. Pat told them he didn’t have any money either, but if they would sponsor him he would give it a try. Pat said between him, his father and his uncle; they had three different ideas of business. Pat said that agriculture wasn’t going anywhere and he wanted to provide hardware so Emery County people would be able to purchase these items locally. He put everything he had into Coast to Coast and then they were associated with Service Star for awhile. When the switch came to True Value, Pat switched to Ace Hardware. They also have added a Radio Shack franchise which his son, Mike Jones manages. “We have enjoyed the county and I have a great love for the county. This is a hard place to have a business because people here grow up with the mind set that you have to leave the county to shop. Businesses that are successful in Emery County have learned that service is the key and taking care of your customers. I appreciate this award,” said Pat.
