UP&L Summer BBQ

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service offier from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Special Needs Swimming Program


The Emery County Recreation Special Service District will be conducting registration for the Special Needs Swimming Program on June 1 from 2-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, for children who are mentally or physically challenged. Classes will run June 13-17 from 6-7 p.m. For more information, contact the office at 381-2108.

Emery High Graduation


Emery High School Graduation will be held May 26 at 7 p.m. in the Spartan Center. We politely request that the graduates observe a dignified dress code and that the audience observe a dignified atmosphere during the program. We politely request that all children remain seated with parents and that no food or drink be brought into the Spartan Center. We hope that this will make our 2005 graduation an enjoyable and memorable occasion.

IronHorse Raceway


IronHorse Raceway in Huntington will host a big bike race on May 21.

Miss Cleveland Pageant


All girls ages 4-21 are encouraged to participate in this years pageant. The pageant will be held on June 18 at the Cleveland Town Hall, Any questions, call Jessie Ward at 653-2719 or the Town Hall at 653-2310.

Floats, Floats, Floats


Come join in the fun of this years Emery County Fair Parade. We encourage every business, church group, city, school group, sports group, or family to be a part of the fair parade. The fair theme is New Ideas, New Dreams, New Beginnings. Floats will be judged and prizes will be given in several different categories. CVJH Closing Program


The closing program honoring the ninth grade class at Canyon View Junior High School will be held May 20 at 6 p.m. in the school gynasium. Students, family and friend are welcome to attend the program. Following the program, a dance for Canyon View students in good academic and citizenship standing will be held from 7-10 p.m.

The Castle Country Horse Show Association schedule is: June 4, Castle Dale; June 18, Price; July 16, Castle Dale; Aug. 14, Price; and Sept. 17, Castle Dale. Black Top Knight

Black Top Knight will be held in Castle Dale May 27 beginning at 6 p.m. The events will be held on 100 North and 100 East.

Volunteers Needed

Miss Heritage Days Scholarship Pageant


The Miss Heritage Days scholarship pageant will be held June 30. Girls ages 1-24 are wanted in six different age groups. Every contestant will receive cash or prizes. Attend the pageant meeting May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Huntington City Hall for help and answers to questions. Application deadline in June 1.

Drop Dead Gorgeous Triathalon

Emery’s Pioneer Day Celebration


Emery will once again be honoring July 24 with a celebration. We had such a wonderful response to our arts, crafts, and food booths last year that we are welcoming everyone to participate againg this year. Set up your booth or table and sell your wares. There is no charge. Just call the Emery Town Office at 286-2417 to register your booth or table so we will know how many to expect. Ask your friends and neighbors to join in the fun. It’s a great place to sell your products and have a good time doing it.

Food Handler’s Classes


There will be a food handler’s classes for all persons working in food serving establishments. The classes will be taught in Price on May 17 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on May 19 at 4 and 7 p.m., at the health department located at 25 West Main Street. Craft and Merchandise Vendors Wanted


Vendors wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Large crowds expected. Security will be provided 24 hours a day, so daily load out is not required. Food Vendors Wanted


Vendors are wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Looking for exclusive food concession vendors. Each vendor may apply to have two exclusive entree food items for their booth. Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

Utah Humanities Council Road Scholar


Requesting a free speaker from the Utah Humanities Council is easy. Log on to www.utahhumanities.org/programs at least one month prior to the proposed event and complete the request form. Following the program, an evaluation must be filled out.

AA and NA Meetings


AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you need assistance other than those hours, call Shirley Spears, at 381-2671 and leave a message or contact her at 650-4787. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

Support Group for Parents

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
