The long awaited film commissioned by the John Wesley Powell Museum is ready. “Journey into the Great Unknown” will have its world premier viewing in the museum theatre at 7 p.m. on May 21, followed by a gala reception to meet and greet some of those who helped make this a reality.
This film has been beautifully made by renowned film maker Gray Warriner and Camera One Productions. It stars some Green River locals, including Kelly Bayless as Major Powell, and many boatmen from a number of the outfitters in this region. But the grandest, and most beautiful and fascinating stars are the world famous Green and Colorado Rivers. Calm and serene to thundering danger the allure shines through every scene.
Follow the heroic journey of John Wesley Powell’s first expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers, the last unexplored and unmapped territory in these United States. This intrepid crew had no idea what they would encounter on this journey. They did not know if they would survive, much less complete their survey and scientific studies of this region. Travel along with these brave men, experience their fear, exhilaration, wonder and pride.
To enhance this exciting event the museum will be hosting the Camera One “Rivers” Film Festival. On May 20, and May 21 three of Gray Warriner’s productions about western rivers and attractions will be shown.
Schedule of Events May 20, Lake Powell 7 p.m. Saturday May 21, Hovenweep 11 a.m. Lewis and Clark 2 p.m.
“Journey into the Great Unknown,” premier at 7 p.m. Reception to follow showing.
