Hunter Safety Class
Emery County Recreation will be sponsoring a hunter safety class for ages 11 and up on June 1-3 from 1-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center. Shooting will be on June 4. You must preregister for this class at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. Class space is limited, so register early. Junior Golf Program
Emery County Recreation will be sponsoring a junior golf program for youth ages 8-17. This program will run June 13, 20, 27, and July 11 and 18, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. You will receive a half price coupon and rules of the Emery County Junior Golf Program at the time of registration. Registration will be June 6 from 4-6 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. You may also register on Jun 7-9 at the Emery County Recreation office between the hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This program will be conducted at Millsite Golf Course. Fundraiser Yard Sale
Courtney Anderson of Huntington is holding a yard sale to raise funds to help pay her way to Orlando, Fla. for a national competition in computer graphics. Anderson won the local competition held at Snow College. Anyone wishing to donate items for this yard sale can call Michelle at 749-9445 to have the items picked up. The yard sale will be held May 28 at 141 South 200 West in Huntington from 9 a.m.-5 p.m..
Coloring Contest
The Utah Summer Games sponsors a children’s coloring contest. Pages can be downloaded at www.utahsummergames.org. Completed pages should be mailed to Utah Summer Games, 351 West University Blvd., Cedar City, UT 84720. On the back of the page parents should legibly write the child’s name, age, birthdate, telephone number and mailing address. Annual Crime Scene Academy
The College of Eastern Utah will be holding the annual Crime Scene Academy training workshop again this year. It will be held June 6 – 10. CEU Faculty member Steve McGibbon and recent CEU co-valedictorian and Criminal Justice student award recipient, Harley Watkins will be teaching at this year’s training. Miss Cleveland Pageant
There will be a meeting on June 3 for all Cleveland girls interested in participating in this year’s pageant. The meeting will be held at Cleveland Town Hall at 10 a.m. Mothers of the girls are encouraged to attend. Any questions concerning the pageant, call Jessie Ward at 653-2719.
Womens Golf at Millsite
A women’s golf group is being organized to play at Millsite Golf Course in Ferron this season. If you are interested in playing, call the clubhouse at 384-2887 to sign up. Play will be scramble formats and will be played at the teams convenience. An organization meeting will be held for all women interested on May 24 at 6 p.m. at the Millsite Restaurant.
San Rafael Junior High Closing Program
The closing program honoring the ninth grade class at San Rafael Junior High School will be held May 25 at 6 p.m. Students, families, and friends are welcome to attend the program. A dance for SRJH students in good academic and citizenship standing will be held from 7-9 p.m. Students are required to dress up and adhere to school dress standards.
State Fair Music Competition
Musicians are being sought for the annual Classical Music Competition to be held during August at the Utah State Fairpark. Classical music students from ages 8-23 are encouraged to participate. North Emery Reunion
The North Emery High Reunion will be held July 2 at Huntington Elementary School, 70 East 100 North. Registration and light refreshments will begin at 10 a.m. The monument dedication will be held at noon. Program at 3 p.m. followed by dinner. Emery Pioneer Day
There is still room for vendors at Emery Town’s annual Pioneer Day celebration, which will be held on July 23. Call the town office at 286-2714 to reserve your place to sell your crafts, plants, hot dogs and cotton candy. There will be no cost to vendors who wish to participate. Veterans of Foreign Wars
A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 23 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.
Special Needs Swimming Program
The Emery County Recreation Special Service District will be conducting registration for the Special Needs Swimming Program on June 1 from 2-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Office, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, for children who are mentally or physically challenged. Project ChildSafe
Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
