Pirates split games
The Green River Pirates split their baseball games this week as they lost to Panguitch 8-1 on Wednesday and then defeated Wasatch Academy 4-1 Friday afternoon. Both games were played at home.
Panguitch scored three runs in the top of the third inning, three more in the top of the fifth inning and two more in the top of the seventh inning. The Pirates scored their only run in the bottom of the second inning.
Kaden Robertson started of the second inning with a double to left field and scored later in the inning.
Kaden also had a single in the fourth inning and Kaleb Fail and Rene had the only other Green River hits.
Against Wasatch Academy, Green River scored in the bottom of the first inning, third inning, fourth inning and sixth inning for their four runs. Wasatch scored their only run in the top of the first.
In the game Rene Escalante had a single, a walk and a run scored, Kaleb had a walk and a run, Kaden had a single, David Wilson had a single and a run, Brennan Bigelow had a double and a run and Nick Burns had two singles and a walk.
Coach Greg Parsons talked about his team, “The kids played better against Wasatch Academy as they just played the game today. Against Panguitch, they seemed intimidated by who they were playing. We need to relax and play like today.”
The play of the day against Wasatch was a throw from Kaden in centerfield to home to nail a runner and prevent a score that seemed to be a momentum shift.
Kaleb picked up the victory and Jace Vetere got the save.
