Melinda MECCAriello with new twins, Rileigh and Merritt as Briar, 2, keeps an eye on the new babies.

Jan. 1, 2005 ushered in double the number of children in the MECCAriello household in Ferron. Melinda and Matthew became the parents of Emery County’s New Year’s babies born somewhere other than Castleview Hospital. The twin babies were born at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
The twins, a girl Rileigh, and a boy Merritt, were welcomed home by big brothers McKay, 4, and Briar, 2. Merritt was the biggest at birth, weighing in at 5 pounds 14 ounces. Rileigh weighed 5 pounds 10 ounces, and both are healthy, and their parents consider themselves lucky to have been able to bring the babies home so soon.
Although the two were four and a half weeks early, they did not require an extended hospital stay. Both babies and mother are doing great.
Melinda is a Ferron City council person and Matthew works for the forest service as a range specialist. He is taking family leave and is home taking care of the entire family, while Melinda recuperates from the Cesarean section birth of the babies.
