My name is Carl F. Haupt, I am a 70 year old retired Air Force Master Sergeant. About 20 months ago I became aware of the extreme poverty of the people living in the Colonia area of Agua Prieta, Mexico. For the past 18 months, I, with other senior citizens, have contributed our time and much of our limited resources in taking necessities to the people of Colonia. We took the name The Starfish Difference for our group because although we can’t help all the poor, we can make a difference to some.
This year I went to Africa and hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for the poor. I paid all of my own expenses and promoted it as well as I could. We are still receiving donations from people as they become aware of our efforts. We have raised more than $12,000 so far. One thing that helped raise money was my becoming the oldest hiker in the Guinness Book of World Records to do this climb.
My hiking days are winding down but I am confident that I can do this year’s hiking goal; hike four peaks in four weeks. I would start with Mt. Whitney in California, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia, and Mt. Fuji in Japan. With skilled promotion this effort could produce a very significant amount of money. As with all donations, every penny received will go directly to the people that we are helping. One special note: Presidente (Mayor) David Figueroa of /Agua Prieta will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with me.
With my limited income I am not in a position to finance another hiking event. It is not that I am unwilling, but my contribution so far in helping these people is well in five figures. To keep some domestic tranquility in our home I must seek outside assistance.
Please aid this effort by helping locate a sponsor and a promoter (pro bono). If we don’t get a single sponsor, then 100 individuals will work. Check our donated webpage www.starfishdiffernce.org. Please help.
