A Humorous Evening with Robert Kirby
Robert Kirby, a columnist for the Salt Lake Tribune, will be speaking at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the CEU campus on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. His topic is How to Use Humor in Conservation Issues. Castle Dale Elementary Workshops
Castle Dale Elementary will be holding workshops for the students to show them that there is better things to do than drugs and violence. They are looking for anybody with talents and ideas to share with the children. The workshops will be on Oct. 28.

They need as many workshops as possible. Some examples of workshops are roping, arts and crafts, soap and wood carving and sports.
CEU Automotive Classes
The first class to be offered is CTI “Fault Pattern Recognition Diagnostic Strategies” training taught by Jerry Stewart. This class will be on September 24th at 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $150.00 which includes lunch and a hands-on session. Students will learn modern methods to diagnose some of the more difficult problems on fuel injected vehicles. Use of scanners, lab scopes, mode 6 and diagnostic clues will be used. The next class to be offered is state safety inspection training for new inspectors and it will be on Sept. 28 on Cars and Light Trucks at 7 p.m. and Sept. 29 on Heavy Trucks at 7 p.m. A state mandated fee of $90 will be charged. Automotive instructors can attend free of charge. Also on Sept. 29 an internet on-line training course will be offered to complete safety inspection at 6 p.m. The internet class is free of charge and will be taught by Utah Highway Patrol officers. Canyon View Parent/Teacher Conference
Canyon View Parent/Teacher Conference will take place on Tues. Oct. 4 from 3-9 p.m. At that time they will band out mid-term report cards while teachers will be on hand to visit with parents. Free Prostate Screening
In a Utah Department of Health article which ran in the Sept. 13 issue of the Emery County Progress, a wrong telephone number was given. The correct number for the dates and times of the screenings is 1-888-222-2542. The number was sent out incorrectly by the health department.
Cleveland Fall Burn Window
Cleveland Town’s fall burn window will be from Sept. 24-Oct. 23. Cleveland Town requires a burn permit for everyone who plans a controlled burn. To obtain a permit, visit town hall, or call 653-2310, or from Greg Oliver at 653-2809. This includes burning of yard waste. There is no fee for the permit.
Annual Republican Fall Dinner
The annual Republican fall dinner and social will be held Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at Critter Country Fixins, 330 West Highway 29, Castle Dale. Support the Emery County Republican Party. Menu will consist of a full steak dinner, and there is a charge.
Huntington City Open Burn Period
Huntington City’s fall open burn period will be Sept. 24-Oct. 23. Burn permits are required and can be picked up a city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Cost to extinguish fires and fines may be imposed. October will be the last limb pick up, do not put any limbs on the street after Oct. 9.
Main Street Development Seminar
The Emery County Chamber of Commerce presents Main Street Development Seminar on Sept. 29, in the Castle Dale Senior Citizen building from 1-2 p.m. Lunch will be served. Guest speaker will be Allen Henry, the city manager for Panguitch. He will present information about money available to towns for Main Street improvements. NFPA Launches Clothing Drive and Relief Fund for Foster Family Hurricane Victims
The National Foster Parent Association has launched a clothing drive and relief fund to support foster families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. While clothing for all ages is needed, there is particular need for new underwear and clothing for infants aged 0-24 months. Clothing donations should be sent via U.S. mail or UPS to the Adoptive and Foster Parent Association of Georgia, addressed to Sharon Carlson, 600 Bear Road, Bogart, GA, 30622. In addition, NFPA is collecting monetary donations that will be used as cash grants and gift cards for affected foster families. Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be screening the hearing ability of our students throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who do not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Womens Volleyball

Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.
AWANA Club
AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. There will be fun, games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
