Funeral services were held in Green River on March 11, where the Utah Highway Patrol officers served as Honor Guard for Orangeville native Leonard Kay Jewkes who passed away March 5 in Logan. He was born in Orangeville on Sept. 8, 1921 to Alma Gardner and Emeline Cox Jewkes.
Leonard married Dora Deane Peterson in 1942 in Salt Lake City, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He began a distinguished career with the Utah Highway Patrol and served for 30 years. Following his time with the highway patrol, Leonard became a corrections officer at the Utah State Prison, and was there for three years.
Not only did he serve the state, he was active in community affairs. He was a lifetime member of the Green River Fire Department, and he served as a representative for the Utah State Division of Aging and Adult Services. Leonard was also very active in his church where he served as counselor in the Bishopric, ward clerk, and Young Men’s president.
