Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale


A holiday bazaar and bake sale, sponsored by Desert Edge Christian Chapel, will be held on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the church located at 500 South Main Street in Huntington. All items will be new for holiday gift giving. For more information call Sylvia at 687-9184.

American Legion Auxiliary Open House


The American Legion Auxiliary, unit 73, based in Huntington is holding an open house on Oct. 15 from 1-3 p.m. at the Huntington Town Hall. Interested persons are welcome to stop by to meet the new officers and to see if they are eligible to become a member. A drawing for a quilt and other prizes will be held. Customer Service Training Seminar

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraising Walk


A cystic fibrosis fundraising walk will be held on Oct. 15, sponsored by the College of Eastern Utah nursing students. The walk will be held at the CEU track from 9 a.m.-noon. For more information call 613-5262.

Youth Football League Clinic


The Emery County Recreation free youth football league clinic will be held on Oct. 15 at Emery High. There will be two sessions lasting about 45 minutes each. The first session will be held at 10:30 a.m. and the second at noon. The youth will be taught basics such as tackling and blocking. For more information, contact Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.

The Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition


The Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition is sponsoring our 7th annual October Awareness Program in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Oct. 12 from 12-1 p.m. at the Old Court House on the second floor. It is free to the public, lunch will be provided and door prizes will be given. The guest speaker will be Amy Rasmussen, LCSW. She has many years of experience working with children and youth teaching social skills and counseling with families. She will speak on social aggression, otherwise known as “bullying”, and will teach how to spot bullies and how to stop them before they grow up to victimize their families and their communities.

Ferron Burn Season


Ferron City’s controlled burn season is Sept. 23-Oct 24. Stop in at City Hall and fill out a burn permit before you burn. Calling in burn information to City Hall will no longer be acceptable. Individuals who burn without signing a permit many be subject to penalties. Permits can also be printed out from our website, www.ferroncity.org, and they must be signed and returned to City Hall prior to the date of the burn.

Duck Derby

Christmas Festival


A Christmas Festival will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale on Nov. 4-5. Friday, the time will be from 1-9 p.m., and on Saturday the time is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be crafts, foods, entertainment, and booths. Flu Clinic


A flu clinic will be held Oct. 12 at Southeastern Utah District Health Department in Castle Dale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This clinic will be done for high risk individuals only. The high risk groups are: Adults 65 and older; children, 6-23 months of age; persons, 2-64 with chronic medical conditions; pregnant women who will be pregnant during influenza season; residents of nursing homes and long term care facilities; health care workers and household contacts of children less than six months of age; and children 6 months-18 years on long term aspirin therapy. More clinics will be scheduled as vaccine becomes available.

Green River Gymkhana

Castle Dale Elementary Workshops


Castle Dale Elementary will be holding workshops for the students to show them that there are better things to do than drugs and violence. They are looking for anybody with talents and ideas to share with the children. The workshops will be on Oct. 28. Some examples of workshops are roping, arts and crafts, soap and wood carving and sports.

Huntington City Open Burn Period


Huntington City’s fall open burn period will be Sept. 24-Oct. 23. Burn permits are required and can be picked up a city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Cost to extinguish fires and fines may be imposed. October will be the last limb pick up, do not put any limbs on the street after Oct. 9.

Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

AWANA Club


AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. There will be fun, games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Eyeglasses for Lions Club
