The Desertview Pro Rodeo is slated to come to town July 28, 29 and 30 at the rodeo arena in Castle Dale beginning at 7:30 p.m. The three day event will be jam packed with cowboys and cowgirls from all over the country competing for big money purses.
The rodeo committee is excited to welcome Dwayne Hargo to the long list of outstanding comedy barrelman. Hargo will offer cowboy protection as well as entertaining fans with hysterical comedy acts. Don’t miss the miniature car routine and explosive actions of this extreme vehicle. The speciality act this year will be Jerry Wayne Olson and one of the highlights of his act is his performance with a miniature horse.
The Castle Valley Ranch colt giveaway is back for the fourth year. During the rodeo on Thursday the Castle Valley Ranch colt giveaway will make a proud horse owner of the lucky ticket holder. A winner will be drawn from all of the rodeo ticket stubs to the Thursday night event.
Each night of the rodeo will feature the Wild Cow Milking event. Local cowboys compete for prize money and all around belt buckles for the overall champions. This is Emery County’s truly extreme, unique event. Don’t miss this event because you will be entertained to the max with this wild action.
The rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. each evening under the Emery County blue skies. An added bonus this year is the new portable bleachers which will add 500 seats to the seating capacity of the rodeo. This added seating will make the standing room only event more friendly to rodeo goers.
Ike Sankey will provide the rodeo stock for the event. Sankey is known far and wide for his rodeo animals who know their job and perform it well. His stock is used every year at the National Rodeo Finals held in Las Vegas.
The Desertview Pro Rodeo has grown larger over the last six years due to increases in added money and better support from fans. Along with this growth and recognition comes more nationally ranked cowboys and cowgirls. This year is no exception with more than one third of the entrants coming from outside the state of Utah and from Canada.
Three new up and coming bullriders from the state of Utah will try their luck with a bull in the Castle Dale Arena. Steve Woolsey from Spanish Fork is currently ranked sixth in the world and Wesley Silcox, from Payson is ranked seventh in the world. If things continue well for these riders they are on the road to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. Jerry Shepherd from Nephi was ranked number nine in 2004 in bull riding and he took home $128, 248.70 in winnings and he will make the trip to Castle Dale.

Dustin Larsen from Manila is 29th in the world and working his way down to the top 15 bull riders in the nation.
A former Desertview Pro Rodeo calf roping champ who has been here three to four years, as he has risen through the ranks will be here again, Matt Shiozawa from Chubbock, Idaho is ranked fourth in the world in calf roping.
There are 12 or more cowboys and cowgirls in various events that are world ranked and will put on a great show for local crowds beginning Thursday.
There will be no shortage of local cowboys as Carson Grimm from Cleveland will ride a bull. Monte Jensen from Price will participate in calf roping. Will Payne from Cleveland will enter the bull riding category along with Carl Sherman, Huntington and James Sherman, Cleveland.
Returning to the arena where he holds the calf roping record will be calf roping champ, Justin Truman of Huntington. As a Desertview Pro Rodeo champ his record is 8.4 seconds.
Jake Hannum from Ogden is also ranked number 13 in calf roping and will be part of this year’s rodeo.
The Pro Rodeo committee said, “It is a solid rodeo from top to bottom.”
There is a huge surprise event to take place at the rodeo this year and you’ll have to show up to find out the secret at 7:30 p.m. sharp at the Thursday rodeo. The Castle Valley lamb fry precedes the rodeo each night with authentic Emery County lamb for the main course.
