Green River Track does well at region

As both the boys and the girls track team now prepare for the final meet of the season, they did very well in region track meet held last week in Moab. The boys won their side with 170 points and the girls took second behind Monticello. They scored 84 points.
For the Lady Pirates, the six participants did very well for themselves. Lindsey Spadafora took first place in the long jump with a jump of 14’7″, third in the 200-meters with a time of 30.64 seconds, fourth in the 100-meters with a time of 14.60 seconds and was on the medley relay team that took second place.
Adriana Cordova won the javelin with a throw of 118′, took second in the long jump with a jump of 14’2″, took second in the discus with a throw of 72’8″ and was also on the medley team. Hannah Mitchell took first in the discus with a throw of 75’5″, fourth in the 200-meters with a time of 30.65 seconds, third in the 100-meters with a time of 14.48 and was also on the medley relay team.
Leah Swalberg was also on the relay team and took sixth in the 1600- meter run. Brianna Gomez ran in the 200-meters. Alicia McFarlane finished ninth in the 1600-meters, jumped 13’8″ in the long jump and also ran in the 100-meters but did not place.
Leading the boys was Hyrum Mitchell. Hyrum finished first in the 3200-meter run, first in the 800-meter run and first in the high jump with a jump of 5’8″.
Here are the results of the events that Green River had placement in. In the shot put, Wayde Mecham finished third with a throw of 35’4″. In the 1600-meter run, Brent Johnson took first place. Mecham won the discus with a throw of 111’4″, Adrian Lucero took second place with a throw of 106’2″ and Weston Vetere finished fifth with a throw of 88’6″.
Kaleb Fail won the long jump with a jump of 20’3″. Kaleb also finished third in the 200-meters with a time of 24.89. Jace Vetere finished fifth in the 200-meters and Parker Hatt finished sixth. Parker also finished fourth in the 800-meter run and third in the javelin. Jace finished second in the javelin with a throw of 156’8″.
Brent Johnson finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:24.94. Brent also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.86.
In the relay races, Green River won the medley race and took second in both the 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay. Runners in the medley were Kaleb Fail, Rene Escalante, Brent Johnson and Hyrum Mitchell.
Runners in the 400-meter relay were Rene Escalante, Parker Hatt, Brennan Bigelow and Jace Vetere. In the 1600, participants were Adrian Lucero, Tanner McFarlane, Brennan Bigelow and Jace Vetere.
State is this Friday and Saturday at BYU.
