County Well Represented in Rodeo Finals

By RYAN PEACOCK Sports Reporter

The Cowboys Rodeo Commission held their finals in Salina, after a year of numerous rodeos all over the state. After the times were calculated and the money was added, there were a few Emery County residents who came out on top.
Amy Fox of Lawrence, who competes in breakaway roping, placed first in a few shows throughout the summer. With these wins, she was sitting in a great position for the finals. During the final go, Amy just had to rope her calf. She, on her horse Buster, was the last to rope because she was sitting in first place. Amy roped her calf in five seconds, which placed her third in the average. This score kept her on top and winning the CRC saddle for Breakaway for 2001. Amy attends SUU majoring in math.
Buck Taylor of Lawrence, competes in bull riding. Buck went in the finals sitting in fourth place. He rode both his bulls in the finals.
He placed second in the average which moved him into the second place for year-end awards. Buck also competes with CRC in the Battle of the Bulls.
He sat in first place all year going into the final battle held in Tooele. After the final ride was over, Buck ended up in second place only falling behind by $90.00.
Kortnie Anderson of Huntington, spent all Friday at the event, vying for the coveted title of CRC Finals Rodeo Queen. After modeling, speeches, personality, personal interview, and horsemanship, the announcements were finally made. Jody Stark, Ogden, was chosen as Queen; Jessica Brewer, Sanpete, chosen as first attendant, and Emery High’s own Kortnie Anderson was chosen as second attendant.
On Saturday, CRC held their annual Exceptional Rodeo for the handicapped and mentally challenged contestants, along with signing of autographs, and horses provided for these special contestants. All the rodeo contestants really get involved with these kids. This is an activity the kids and the contestants won’t soon forget.
