Arthur Rich
WELLINGTON – Arthur L. Rich, age 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Provo after a short illness.
He was born May 14, 1920 in Roosevelt to Charles C. Rich III and Theadocia Clark Rich. He married Edna Orlene Powell July 1, 1959 in Rock Springs, Wyo., later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He was a cowboy all his life and loved working with his hands, whether with animals or in the coal mine. He was a member of the UMWA, having retired after 30 years with Kaiser Steel. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He loved people and, in addition to his family, he leaves many dear friends behind, by whom he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by wife, Edna, Wellington; children, Carol and Steve Jones, Sherry and Eddie Johnson, all of Woodland, Calif.; Ruby and Rick Sandoval, Price; Orson and Claudette Rich, Price; Mary and Dan Loveless, Ogden; Roy and Christy Rich, Wellington; June and Valorie Rich, Wellington; Wendy Rich, Coalville; and 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters; and two sons, Jesse and Raymond.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Wellington 1st/4th LDS Ward Chapel. Burial, Wellington City cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Charlie Guerrero
PRICE – Charles Dave Guerrero, age 48, was tragically taken from us Jan. 13, 2002 in Farmington, N.M.
Born Nov. 14, 1953 in Price, to Guadalupe and Gertrude Rodriguez Guerrero. Married Dawna Gotschall July 26, 1975 in Elko, Nev. Later divorced.
Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Charlie was an active member of the Price Kiwanis where he held all offices and was president in 1997-98. He was a dedicated coal miner in various mines and a former member of the UMWA and employee of Joy Mining and Machinery. He enjoyed working on cars, spending time with his grandkids and fixing things that weren’t broken. Charlie will always be remembered for his willingness to help others and he will be greatly missed by anyone that knew him.
Survived by three daughters and one son, Wendi Guerrero, Price; April Guerrero and Abel Atienzo, Carbonville; Holly Guerrero, Price; Chad Guerrero, Carbonville; three grandchildren, Orocell Kaila and Rey Guerrero; mother, Gertrude Ahalt, Salt Lake City; three brothers and seven sisters, Lupe and Bessie Guerrero, Price; Joseph and Toney Guerrero, Logan; Phillip and Donna Ahalt, Salt Lake City; Shirley Burringo, Price; Mary and Arthur Valdez, Price; Virginia Espinoza, Salt Lake City; Mary Helen and Ricardo Marin, Salt Lake City; Priscilla Castanuela, Price; Hope and Richardo Cervantez, Salt Lake City; and Connie Payan, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by father; brother, Toby Guerrero; nephew, Joe Guerrero Jr.; and grandson, Brendan Guerrero.
Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 19, Mitchell Chapel. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Vopel Lander Jr.
PRICE – Vopel H. Lander, Jr., age 50, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002 at his home.
He was born Mary 17, 1951 in Dragerton, to Vopel Lander Sr. and Betty Lou Taylor. Married Janel M. McDougald June 12, 1970, later divorced. Married Beverly Spensko Nov. 14, 1992.
Graduate of Grand County High School in Moab. Graduate of College of Eastern Utah with three separate associates of science degrees and was working towards a bachelors degree in EMS. Vopel enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, boating, working on his vehicles and he thrived on continued education.
As a beloved member of the community he will be greatly missed by family and all. With his heart and soul he was always giving and trying to help others. He was a coal miner for 10 years, an EMT for the past four years and recently as a EMT instructor. Vopel was the founder, president and CEO of Golden Hour Rescue. He was the local representative of the Injured Workers Association of Utah.
Survived by wife, Beverly Spensko-Lander; mother, Betty Lou Lander; daughter, Michelle (Bert) Bruno; sister, Vondel Temple; granddaughters, Jaycey Kay and Kaylee Bruno; niece, Valerie (Alan) Justesen; stepsons, Chance (Becky) Spensko; and Shane (Suzie) Spensko. Also survived by many other nieces, family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by father; favorite uncle, Dick Taylor; grandparents, Chauncie and Nannie-Vera Taylor; and brother-in-law, Bruce Temple.
Memorial service Wednesday, Jan. 23, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday one half prior to service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 645 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
Kenneth Tomsic
HELPER – Our beloved husband, dad and papa, Ken Tomsic, age 73, passed away Jan. 17, 2002 in Utah Valley Hospital from complications associated with multiple myeloma.
He was born Nov. 23, 1928 in Helper, to John and Caroline Toson Tomsic and was a proud, lifelong resident of Helper. Married Shirley Ann Karr Nov. 1, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Ken was a strong union man and a member of the UMWA Local 1206. He worked in the coal mining industry most of his life and retired from the Wellington Washer Plant in 1985. He was known in the neighborhood for his beautiful yard and rock gardens. Ken will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ken is survived by wife of 48 years; two sons and four daughters, Gary (Renate) Tomsic, Kyle (Melanie) Tomsic, Lana (David) Phelps, Kendra Tomsic (Kathy Howa), Carol Jensen, and Gina Tomsic (Russ Lawson). Also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; and brother, Gene.
P.S. I miss your touch, your smile and our wonderful times together. You were my soul mate, my life. Thank you for the love you gave me, for being my best friend and giving my life meaning. Love, Shirley.

Arlene Bogdin
PRICE – Our loving wife, mother, sisters and dear friend, Arlene B. Staley Bogdin, age 51, passed away Jan. 20, 2002 at her home after a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis.
She was born Feb. 3, 1950 in Price to LaVell and Bessie Draper Staley. Married John O. Bogdin Feb. 12, 1972 in Price.
Member of the LDS Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Arlene graduated from Carbon High School and later attended a Salt Lake beauty school, where she received her cosmetology degree.
She loved the outdoors and will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by husband, John O. Bogdin, Price; son, John Deloy Bogdin, Price; and brother, LaVell Staley, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by parents.
Funeral service Thursday, Jan. 24, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Donna Gilbert
PRICE – Donna Annette Gilbert, age 61, passed away Jan. 15, 2002 in Price.
Born Oct. 31, 1940 in Price to William Wayne and Annette Jensen Liddell. Married Orrie Cleon “Bid” Gilbert and they made their home in Price. Bud passed away in 1975.
Donna loved caring for her family and associating with the friends she was close to. She enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano. Though she passed through many trials, she was able to maintain her dignity and sense of humor.
She is survived by children, John William and Brenda McCabe, Las Vegas, Nev.; Doris K. Blaha-Gilbert, Price; Edward “Bud” and Michele Gilbert, Boca Raton, Fla.; brothers, Edward Wayne Liddell and Blake William Liddell; sisters, Velda Ruth Thorp; and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband; and daughter, Joni McCabe.
Graveside services were Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Stella Mae Evridge
FERRON – Stella Mae Evridge, age 97, passed away Jan. 20, 2002, at the Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ferron.
Stella was born May 30, 1904, in Braggs, Okla., to James Mathew Breeden and Flora Iness Wiggelton. Stella married John Harles Evridge Feb. 8, 1927. John passed away April 21, 1977.
Stella was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty June Smith. Surviving are two sons: Jerry (Joann) Everidge, Williams, Ariz; and John Wayne (Colleen) Evridge, Huntington; and one sister, Olie Parker of Siloen Springs, Arkansas. Also survived by four generations of grandchildren (13) and many great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren. Survived also by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Williams, Ariz., Jan. 24, at 1:30 p.m. Following services, a luncheon for all family and friends will be held at Barbara and Fred Garcia’s home located at 601 West Edison in Williams.
