Marian McEwan
HELPER – Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and beloved friend, Marian Levin McEwan, age 71, passed away May 4, 2002 while traveling on Highway 6.
She was born Jan. 14, 1931 in Provo to Samuel Issac and Stella Seyboldt Levan. Married Dean R. McEwan Aug. 28, 1953 in Elko, Nev.
Marian was a resident of Helper since 1960. Member of the Price Ladies of Elks, where she was a past officer. She was serving as treasurer of the Slovenian Home in Spring Glen.
Marian was an active member of the Utah Power & Light Retirees Group. She had a special love for animals and was avid supporter of the Humane Society.
Marian enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Dean R. McEwan, Helper; daughter, Mary Ellen (Max) Lambson, Helper; son, Michael Dean (LuJean) McEwan, Price; grandson, Jefferey M. Hawkins, Helper; sister-in-law, Lois Levin, Provo; special pals, Snickers, Jiggers and Smokey, her beloved cat. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Richard (Dick) Levin; and favorite aunt, Agnes Seyboldt.
Funeral service was held Mon. May 13, Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Carbon County Humane Society.
Darlene Ellen Coleman
Our beloved Darlene Ellen Coleman, age 67, passed away May 15 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family following a brave battle with cancer. She was born June 30, 1934 in Price to Clarence and Nellie Prettyman Smith. She married Dan Coleman on April 6, 1953 in Elko, Nev. She has been a very hard worker all her life working as a devoted homemaker and a custodian at several places throughout her life. She enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, crossword puzzles, but her greatest love was being with her family.
She is survived by her husband Dan Coleman of Price, children, Danny G. (Tracie) Coleman, Kathy Coleman, Sharon (Hubert) Wilson all of Price. Seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren with more almost to arrive. A brother Don Smith of Price and a sister, Carol (Bill) Leverton of Cleveland. she was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters, and a daughter Eileen Coleman.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at the Cliffview Cemetery in Price on May 15 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 941 E. 3300 S. Salt Lake City, UT 84106 in her memory.
Nola Stilson
Nola Mae Jones Stilson, 80, died May 7, 2002 in Ferron, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born May 5, 1922 in Castle Dale, to Elisha Allen Jones Jr. and Janett Shiner Jones. Married Lyle M. Stilson May 23, 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were married for 62 wonderful years.
Nola loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in church, at funerals and many other functions. Nola was also very talented in crafts, quilts, embroidery and sewing. Nola was an excellent cook, she made the best homemade bread around and taught many 4-H classes. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many positions over her lifetime including counselor in the Relief Society, primary teacher, visiting teacher and various others. Nola and her husband, Lyle, served a full time mission for the LDS Church in the Tempe, Arizona Mission. Everyone will miss her sweet smile and pleasant disposition. She loved her husband and family dearly.
Nola is survived by husband, Lyle, Castle Dale; four children, DeAnn and Kimball Cox, Santa Clara; Pam and Jim Jewkes, Castle Dale; Eric Stilson, Sandy; Kayla Riechman, Taylorsville; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Fern Jewkes, Price. Preceded in death by parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Burial, Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Michael Montoya
PRICE – Michael Carmen Montoya, age 47, passed away May 7, 2002 in Salt Lake City.
He was born March 28, 1955 in Sunnyside, to Toribio Jose (Toby) Montoya and Concha Pacheco.
Michael was an adventurous and free spirited individual, who loved to work with his hands. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.
Michael is survived by best friend and companion for the past 12 years, Lorna; sons, Justin Bear, Fort Duchesne; Tony J. Montoya, Vernal; one daughter; mother, Concha Montoya, Price; sisters, Theresa (Ernesto) Avila, Wilmington, Calif.; brother, Toby Montoya Jr., Paonia, Colo.; brother, David Lee Montoya, Paonia, Colo.; brother Frankie (Linda) Montoya, Salt Lake City; brother, Ronald (Cindy) Montoya, Hotchkiss, Colo.; sister, Cynthia (Richard) Marlow, Wilmington, Calif.; sister Stephanie (Humberto) Guerrero, Price; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father, Toby Montoya.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, May 14, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Monday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Theon Bliss
EAST CARBON/DRAPER – Theon T. (Bill) Bliss, age 87, passed away May 13, 2002 in Draper.
He was born June 7, 1914 in Abraham, to Norman Ingalls and Harriett Theobald Bliss. He married Regina Brockett Kirkendall Sept. 28, 1940 in Eureka, Nev. She passed away April 7, 1998.
Bill served as a volunteer fireman for the East Carbon fire department, and was also a member of the Carbon County Search and Rescue Team. He was employed at the Horse Canyon coal mine and the Texaco service station in East Carbon.
He is survived by son, Hugh (Glennis) Kirkendall, daughter, Mary Ellen (Edward) Southwick; six grandsons, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Also survived by brother, Ferron Bliss, Spanish Fork. Preceded in death by wife and parents.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, May 16, 1 p.m., at the Valley View Cemetery in Sunnyside. Friends may call Wednesday evening, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Burial, Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
