Hot dry weather conditions and four years of drought have created fire potential on the Manti-La Sal National Forest and throughout southern Utah.
Because of the conditions, the Ferron/Price and Sanpete Ranger Districts, along with all districts on the Fishlake National Forest will be imposing Stage I Fire Restrictions beginning today.
The fire restrictions prohibit open fires or campfires outside of developed recreation site and discharging fireworks. Smoking is also prohibited except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or in an area that has been cleared of all flammable materials.
The use of propane stoves is not prohibited. Violation of these restrictions can be punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or a year in prison or both.
Campfires are allowed in the following developed recreation sites on the Ferron/Price and Sanpete Ranger Districts: Big Rock, Bridges, Chicken Creek, Chute, Ferron Reservoir, Flat Canyon, Forks of Huntington, Gooseberry, Gooseberry Reservoir, Horse Canyon, Indian Creek, Joes Valley Ramp, Joes Valley, Lake Hill, Little Bear, Little Rock, Lower Little Bear, Manti Community, Maple Canyon, Old Folks Flat, Potters Pond, South Hughes, Spring City, Twelve Mile.
