On June 20, two horses were found dead near the sewer ponds in Huntington. The field in which the horses were found is being leased by an area resident. The horses belonging to two different owners were found with apparent gun shot wounds.
According to Jeff Thomas, detective for the Emery County Sheriff’s Office one horse was shot through the lungs and a bullet has been recovered from that animal and taken into evidence and will be sent to the state crime lab for testing. The other horse was apparently shot through the head, although no fragments have been recovered from this animal.
The two horses were found within 100 yards of each other. Other criminal mischief was also found in the area, but it is not known if there is any connection. Both matters are under investigation.
The shootings occured sometime between the evening of June 19 and the time they were found on June 20. No one has come forward at this time with any information about the shootings.
“We don’t have a lot to go on, but we are working on what we have learned so far. If anyone has any information concerning this incident. Please call the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office is offering a $500 reward with $100 being offered from one of the owners, for a total of $600 reward for information leading to an arrest in the matter. The number at the sheriff’s office is 381-2404,” said Thomas.
