Firefighters Battle Rattle Complex Blaze

Firefighters continue to battle a blaze which has scorched approximately 74,500 acres 20 miles northeast of Green River.
Called the Rattle Complex, the fire was reported to be 22 percent contained as of Sunday. Firefighters completed a fire line across the north end of the fire and are continuing to reinforce the direct fire line. On the southeastern portion, the fire was very active on Sunday with high intensity surface runs and short range spotting and crowning. Elsewhere, crews made good progress constructing direct fire line, mopping up and cold trailing.
On Sunday fire crews expected to complete indirect fire line construction and road access improvement on Went Ridge. The western sections of the fire’s perimeter will be closely monitored without placing crews on the line, due to a lack of firefighting resources. Steep narrow roads, crew unavailability, predicted warmer and drier weather could continue to challenge containment efforts, reported the forest service.
According to the forest service 541 people, six helicopters, 10 engines, 13 water tenders and four bulldozers are battling the blaze. No injuries have been reported on the fire. The public is advised to stay off roads in Buck Canyon, Kings Wells Canyon and Indian Springs Canyon in Uinta County. In Grand County, Westwater-Hay Canyon, East Canyon and Bitter Creek Road above the San Arroyo Gas Plant have been closed to the public. All state trust lands in the Book Cliffs area have been closed.
