Fair Exhibits
Everyone is welcome to exhibit their best home canned fruits and vegetables in the County Fair. Bring exhibits on July 30 at the new Emery County Fair Building. Exhibits will be judged on July 31 and be on exhibit. Pick up items on Aug. 5.
Huntington City
Huntington City secondary water schedule. There will be no watering from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Even numbered houses and lots will water Monday and Thursday. Odd numbered houses and lots will water Tuesday and Friday. Churches, schools, mobile home parks, cemetery, ball fields and city park will water Wednesday and Saturday. Absolutely no watering on Sunday. Anyone not following the water schedule or wasting water will be subjected to penalties. 1st offense-warning, 2nd offense-citation, 3rd offense-loss of secondary water for season.
Summer Swimming Pool Hours
Castle Dale City swimming pool summer schedule will go as follows.Aquasize: Monday, Wednesday, Friiday: 5:30-6:30 a.m.; Monday-Friday, 7:30-8:30 a.m.; Laps: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 6:30-7:30 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30- 7:30 a.m.; Family Night: Monday 7-9 p.m.; Open Swim: Monday-Saturday, 12- 7 p.m. For more information call the pool at 381-5298. The pool will be closed on July 24.
Correction of Notice
The BLM is publishing in the Federal register a Notice of Call for Nominations to the wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. This notice was previously published May 21 but with incorrect dates. The correct date by which all nominations must be received is July 24.
Castle Dale Area Needs Host Families
Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive very soon for academic semester and year program homestays, and the sponsoring organization needs a few more local host families. Castle Dale area families interested in learning more about student exchange or arranging for a meeting with a community representative may call P.I.E., toll free at 1-800-631-1818.
Ferron Memory Afghan
Old Mill Camp is selling Ferron Memory Afghans. They are selling these afghans to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ferron. They contain historical images as well as current Ferron sites. Call 384-2648 or 384-2902 for more information.
2002 Summer Story Time
The Summer Reading Program will be from 11-11:30 a.m. at Castle Dale Library. On July 23 R.J. the Clown will be visiting the library. If you can bring a good used childrens book to donate to R.J. the clown for the children at the Castle View Hospital. On July 30 they will be having an awards ceremony.
Also, they will have a reading foot race. Each hour that you read or have been read too, put your name on a foot track. Readers will make tracks all around the library by racing the boys by the girls.
Union Meeting
A Union Meeting will be held for Local 6363 at District 22. The meeting will be on July 19 at 10 a.m.
Cleveland Days
Cleveland will be holding their annual Cleveland Days on July 15-24. These are the events on the following days; July 17 and 18, trap shoot 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.; July 19, bike races 5 p.m., pot luck lamb fry 6 p.m.; July 20, flag ceremony 9 a.m., breakfast 7:30-9:30 a.m., Children’s parade and parade 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., dance 8 p.m.; July 22, 10 or 20 mile bike ride 6 p.m.; July 23, family barbecue and sidewalk art contest 4:30 p.m., 3 on 3 basketball and free throw competition 6 p.m.; July 24, karaoke contest and music by encore 7 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.
Carnival at Emery County Fair
There will be a new carnival at the Emery County Fair this year. Advance ticket are available at Carbon Emery Insurance, Emery County Treasurer, Castle Dale City, Orangeville City, Ferron City and Country Corner Store. You will save on over the gate prices. The carnival will run from July 24-27 at Stewarts parking lot.
Pie Baking Contest
Emery Town will be having a pie baking contest as part of their 24th of July celebration. Everyone is welcome to enter and there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for both single and double crust categories. Have your pie at the Emery Church by 2 p.m. on July 24. Driver Safety Program
AARP-55 Alive, Drive Safety Program classes will be held at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department on July 30-31 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (with lunch break). To reserve a spot call 637-3671. This class is designed for drivers age 50 and over and may make you eligible for a multi-year automobile insurance discount.
Fair Guides
The fair guide for this year are located in the libraries and city halls, the court house and the chamber of commerce.
Utah Shakespearean Festival
The Utah Shakespearean Festival for the summer season of 2003 will be held through Aug. 30 and the fall season from Sept. 18 through Oct. 18. The summer season will include William Shakespeare’s, “Measure for Measure, Much Ado about Nothing, and Richard III”, also the historical musical 1776, Born Yesterday and The Servant of Two masters. The fall season will feature Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” the musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors, and the Oscar Wilde comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
Heritage Tourism Conference
A conference on heritage tourism in Emery County will be held on July 25-26 at the Emery High School. The conference will begin with registration from 12-2 p.m. Speakes will fill the afternoon.The conference will reconvene on July 26 at 9 a.m. Layne Miller will also discuss rock art resources and from 1-5 p.m. there will be an open discussion on the future of the San Rafael Western National Monument. Veterans Outreach Program
John Maher a Department Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans will be visiting Price on July 17 . He will be providing assistance with Department of Veterans Affairs. Bring a DD Form 214 (original of Copy #4), marriage/divorce, adoption, or death certificates, and children’s birth certificates/ Social Security numbers. He will be at the Price Workforce Office, 475 West Price River Drive, #256 from 9-11 a.m.
24th of July Celebration
There will be a 24th of July Celebration for Castle Dale and Orangeville residents. It will begin with a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at the Stake Center Pavilion in Castle Dale and Orangeville City Park. Marinated BBQ turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be that night at 6 p.m. under the rodeo grounds tent. There will also be live entertainment and fireworks at dusk. There will be a small charge for the breakfast and dinner and remember to bring your own plates.
Swap Meet
CEU will be holding a swap meet on August 3. You may sell items there and need to contact Sharon at 613-4384 to reserve a space. The swap will go from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Aaron Jones Parking Lot, 300 East 600 North, Price.
Support Group
Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge. It will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. There will be on site child care available with prior notice. The course offers self-reliance skills, recourses, skills on setting up a safety net and starting a new life plan. For more information call Jennifer at 381-2827 or Jackie at 637-5542.
Adopt a Cat
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are giving away founder and president Ingrid Newkirks book 250 Things You Can Do to Make Your Cat Adore You in recognition of “Adopt a Shelter Cat” Month. The first 100 people to submit a few brief sentences describing their lucky shelter cats to Helping Animals.com will win this book.
Helping Utah Children Hear Program
The Helping Utah Children Hear Program is accepting applications from families of children under the age of 21 years who are in need of hearing aids. Families whose income qualifies are eligible for a free set of hearing aids that the child may keep.
