Cleveland resident, Judi Bishop has a lot of hair and she has been very generous with her hair over the years. She is having her hair cut for the sixth time to donate. She said, “You have to have at least 10 inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love. This organization collects hair to have made into wigs for disadvantaged children who don’t have hair due to disease and illness. Mostly the hair loss is due to cancer treatments. The clean hair is collected in a pony tail or braid and placed in a plastic bag to be sent to Locks of Love.
“We would like to have a hair drive in the month of August and collect more hair for this organization. There are a number of hair stylists who will donate their time to this cause. I know we have a lot of people in our county with a lot of hair who could really make a difference to a child,” said Bishop.
On this day, Lindsay Kay donated the hair cut. Kay just recently set up shop in the Brydi’s Groom Salon on North Highway 155 in Cleveland. She is located in the front of the Chute Supply building. Kay said, “I graduated from the Von Curtis Academy in Provo in July of 2001. I have been cutting hair professionally for about a year now. I do cuts, perms and colors. This is a full aspect salon and we serve the men, women and children of Emery County. I didn’t really know anything about the Locks of Love program but I was glad to help out.”
Bishop is a 50 year cancer survivor. She contracted cancer at the age of 9. She said she has been growing her hair two years this time and she plans to start growing it again until it is long enough to cut and give away again.
