A KFJ coal truck was involved in a mishap while traveling southbound on SR-10 on Sept. 4 at approximately 8:50 p.m. The truck driver tried to miss a deer and tipped over his rear trailer spilling coal on the roadway. The trailer came completely unhooked and crossed the road coming to rest about a foot and a half across the white line.
A vehicle traveling northbound came upon the spilled load and collided with it. A passenger in the vehicle had to be transported to the hospital with possible neck and back injuries. Serious damage was incurred by the vehicle. Two other vehicles came into contact with the coal, one receiving scratches to the bumper and the other vehicle was undamaged.
Utah Department of Transportation pushed the coal to the side of the road and barricaded the trailer for the night. KFJ Trucking completed the cleanup the following day. Trooper Dave Brinkerhoff from the highway patrol investigated the accident.
