Suicide Prevention Awareness Workshop
A Suicide Prevention and Awareness Workshop will be held on September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emery High School Little Auditorium. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth and young adults. The workshop will be hosted by Miss Emery County JaNell Jones. A special guest speaker from the Iron County Victim Services, DeNean Peterson, will be featured. A balloon release will be held following the workshop as a symbol of hope for tomorrow and as a tribute to lives lost through suicide. The public is encouraged to attend.
Southern Utah State Homecoming

Utah Arts Council’s Arts Competition
Artists planning to enter the Utah Arts Council’s Utah ’02 Painting and Sculpture Statewide Competition should take note of the following deadlines: Slide entries-Sept. 26, to the Utah Arts Council, 617 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Castle Dale Library Story Hour
Castle Dale Library will host story hour every other Friday at 10:30 a.m. Story hour will begin on Sept. 20, and it will be held Oct. 4 and 18, Nov. 1 and 15, and Dec. 6 and 20.
D.R.O.P.S. Truck
The D.R.O.P.S. truck will be in the parking lot of Desert Edge Christian Chapel, 500 South Main in Huntington, on Sept. 24. Sign ups begin at 11 a.m.

The Lily of the Valley Camp of Elmo D.U.P. will have their opening social Sept. 18 at the Elmo Park Pavilion at 7 p.m.
Ferron Memory Afghan
Old Mill Camp is selling Ferron Memory Afghans. They are selling these afghans to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ferron. They contain historical images as well as current Ferron sites. Call 384-2648 or 384-2902 for more information.
Ten Free Trees
Ten free trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during September.
The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for American campaign. The ten trees are the American Redbud, White Pine, Sugar Maple, White Flowering Dogwood, Pin Oak, Red Maple, Birch, Silver Maple, Red Oak, and Colorado Blue Spruce.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10 with enclosed planting instructions. The six to twelve inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
Members will also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s colorful bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book with information about tree planting and care.
To receive the free trees, send a $10 membership contribution to TEN TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave. Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Sept. 30.
U.S.D.A. Website for Those Needing Hay
USDA has developed an internet website for producers of livestock that “need/have” hay, haying or grazing available. The website is located at www.fsa.usda.gov and has a quick link titled FSA HayNet. This is available to assist livestock producers in finding needed hay or grazing.
Peery’s Egyptian Theater

Tuacahn Prepares for Return of “Utah”
The anticipated return of the musical “UTAH!” is coming this fall to the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. This show is the story of Jacob Hamblin and his struggle to make peace with the Paiutes.
“UTAH” will be presented in the Tuacahn Amphitheatre Monday through Saturday from Sept. 12 to Oct. 22. Show time is 7:30 p.m. A chuckwagon cookout is offered before the show beginning at 6 p.m.

Green River will host their 22nd annual men’s slow pitch softball tournament on Sept. 20-22. This year we would also like to see the Coed tournament brought back to Melon Days weekend. The Huntington North Reservoir Resource Management Plan Project Team announces the next open house style Public Workshop on Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at the Huntington Community Center, 40 North Main Street. The workshop is designed to solicit comments and suggestions from the public concerning the preliminary alternatives we have developed for the RMP. The public is welcome to attend and comments are encouraged.

Campout for Women at Scofield
Women can learn the basics of map reading and using a compass to navigate the backcountry by attending a Map and Compass Camp-out that will be held Sept. 20-21. The camp-out is limited to 15 participants and the fee covers food and all the equipment needed except sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

Veteran, Dependents, Widows
A service officer from the American Legion will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for VA benefits, including compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be a member of the American Legion to recieve assistance. The National Association for people with Mental Illness 2002 conference “Bridges to Hope” will be held at the Sheraton City Center Hotel, 150 West 500 South in Salt Lake City on Oct. 19. Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge.
