Suicide Prevention Awareness Workshop


A Suicide Prevention and Awareness Workshop will be held on September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emery High School Little Auditorium. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth and young adults. The workshop will be hosted by Miss Emery County JaNell Jones. A special guest speaker from the Iron County Victim Services, DeNean Peterson, will be featured. A balloon release will be held following the workshop as a symbol of hope for tomorrow and as a tribute to lives lost through suicide. The public is encouraged to attend.

Southern Utah State Homecoming


SUU will have homecoming activities on Oct. 11-12. REO Speedwagon will perform on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Centrum on the SUU campus, with the homecoming dance to follow. On Oct. 12 SUU will play Cal-poly at 7 p.m. Call the Centrum Ticket Office 1-435-586-7872 or through Smithtixx 1-800-888-tixx.

Utah Arts Council’s Arts Competition


Artists planning to enter the Utah Arts Council’s Utah ’02 Painting and Sculpture Statewide Competition should take note of the following deadlines: Slide entries-Sept. 26, to the Utah Arts Council, 617 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Castle Dale Library Story Hour


Castle Dale Library will host story hour every other Friday at 10:30 a.m. Story hour will begin on Sept. 20, and it will be held Oct. 4 and 18, Nov. 1 and 15, and Dec. 6 and 20.

D.R.O.P.S. Truck

Ferron Memory Afghan


Old Mill Camp is selling Ferron Memory Afghans. They are selling these afghans to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ferron. They contain historical images as well as current Ferron sites. Call 384-2648 or 384-2902 for more information.

Ten Free Trees


Ten free trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during September.
The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for American campaign. The ten trees are the American Redbud, White Pine, Sugar Maple, White Flowering Dogwood, Pin Oak, Red Maple, Birch, Silver Maple, Red Oak, and Colorado Blue Spruce.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10 with enclosed planting instructions. The six to twelve inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
Members will also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s colorful bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book with information about tree planting and care.
To receive the free trees, send a $10 membership contribution to TEN TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave. Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Sept. 30.

U.S.D.A. Website for Those Needing Hay


USDA has developed an internet website for producers of livestock that “need/have” hay, haying or grazing available. The website is located at www.fsa.usda.gov and has a quick link titled FSA HayNet. This is available to assist livestock producers in finding needed hay or grazing.

Tuacahn Prepares for Return of “Utah”


The anticipated return of the musical “UTAH!” is coming this fall to the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. This show is the story of Jacob Hamblin and his struggle to make peace with the Paiutes.

“UTAH” will be presented in the Tuacahn Amphitheatre Monday through Saturday from Sept. 12 to Oct. 22. Show time is 7:30 p.m. A chuckwagon cookout is offered before the show beginning at 6 p.m.

The Huntington North Reservoir Resource Management Plan Project Team announces the next open house style Public Workshop on Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at the Huntington Community Center, 40 North Main Street. The workshop is designed to solicit comments and suggestions from the public concerning the preliminary alternatives we have developed for the RMP. Campout for Women at Scofield


Women can learn the basics of map reading and using a compass to navigate the backcountry by attending a Map and Compass Camp-out that will be held Sept. 20-21. A service officer from the American Legion will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for VA benefits, including compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits. NAMI Conference

Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge.
