Ferron Youth City Council
Meet the Candidates Night, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at Ferron City Hall. All republican and democrat Emery County candidates will address issues- become more informed and remember to vote.
Emery County Historical Society
Emery County Historical Society announces a night of historical memories Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. Dennis Nelson will be the featured speaker and he will describe the life of a uranium miner and sawmill operator in this area during the 1940s and 50s. Joan Burke and Shaun Tomsich will entertain with a medley of cowboy songs. Refreshments will be served.
Rocky Point Haunted House
The Olympic Spirits return to Salt Lake City as Rocky Point Haunted House opens its 2002 season Sept. 13. The RPHH will be open every Tues. -Thurs. evening, 7:30-10:30 p.m. and Fri. and Sat. 7:30-Midnight, through Nov. 2. The house is located at 3400 South State Street. National Public Lands Day
Sept. 28, bring your lunch, shovel, gloves, rakes, buckets, wheelbarrows and etc. to help improve the National Historic site at Swasey’s cabin in the Head of the Sinbad. We will do fencing, roofing, erosion protection, clean up and build fire rings. Water, drinks and snacks will be provided. BBQ (and entertainment) will start when the work is done (about 4 p.m.). Cleveland’s Fall Festival
Celebrate the end of summer and the new playground equipment. Bring a jar of your bottled fruit, veggies, pickles, relish, salsa, jam, etc. to trade and a pot luck dish or dessert. The town will furnish hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Local fire fighters will also be honored. Games and door prizes. Sat. Oct. 12 from 3-5 p.m. If the weather is bad, it will be rescheduled.
San Rafael Field Tours
Four additional field tours will be provided on each Sat. throughout Oct. as part of the overall San Rafael Swell Study.
Open house meetings originally scheduled for early Oct. have been rescheduled for the week of Nov. 18 in the same locations, Richfield, Salt Lake City, Price, Green River and Castle Dale.
MS Support Group

Pioneer Theatre

Osteoporosis Teleconference
John R. Lee, M.D., author and authority on hormones will conduct a teleconference on Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. (MT). This teleconference will be free, for reservation and information call 1-800-701-7910. The purpose of this teleconference is to anwer questions about hormones and health issues for women.
Board of Oil, Gas and Mining
The Utah Board of Oil, Gas and Mining will meet Sept. 25 in the Brigham City City Emergency Services Building, 442 West Forest Street, at 9 a.m..
Suicide Prevention Awareness Workshop
A Suicide Prevention and Awareness Workshop will be held on September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emery High School Little Auditorium. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth and young adults. The workshop will be hosted by Miss Emery County JaNell Jones. A special guest speaker from the Iron County Victim Services, DeNean Peterson, will be featured. A balloon release will be held following the workshop as a symbol of hope for tomorrow and as a tribute to lives lost through suicide. The public is encouraged to attend.

Utah Arts Council’s Statewide Arts Competition

Ferron Memory Afghan
Old Mill Camp is selling Ferron Memory Afghans. They are selling these afghans to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ferron. They contain historical images as well as current Ferron sites. Call 384-2648 or 384-2902 for more information.
Ten Free Trees
Ten free trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during September.
The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for American campaign. The ten trees are the American Redbud, White Pine, Sugar Maple, White Flowering Dogwood, Pin Oak, Red Maple, Birch, Silver Maple, Red Oak, and Colorado Blue Spruce.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10 with enclosed planting instructions. The six to 12 inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
Members will also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s colorful bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book with information about tree planting and care.
To receive the free trees, send a $10 membership contribution to TEN TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave. Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Sept. 30.
U.S.D.A. Website for Those Needing Hay
USDA has developed an internet website for producers of livestock that “need/have” hay, haying or grazing available. The website is located at www.fsa.usda.gov and has a quick link titled FSA HayNet. This is available to assist livestock producers in finding needed hay or grazing.
Tuacahn Prepares for Return of “Utah”
The anticipated return of the musical “UTAH!” is coming this fall to the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. This show is the story of Jacob Hamblin and his struggle to make peace with the Paiutes.
“UTAH” will be presented in the Tuacahn Amphitheatre Monday through Saturday from Sept. 12 to Oct. 22. Show time is 7:30 p.m. A chuckwagon cookout is offered before the show beginning at 6 p.m.

Castle Dale Library will host story hour every other Friday at 10:30 a.m. Story hour will begin on Sept. 20, and it will be held Oct. 4 and 18, Nov. 1 and 15, and Dec. 6 and 20.
