The Municipal Building Authority of Emery County met in their regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. in the commission chambers. Those present were board members Randy Johnson, Drew Sitterud, Ira Hatch and Dennis Nelson.
The first item of business was an update on the state courts building by project manager, Todd Kitchen from Sahara. He said they are still a little ahead of schedule on the project. They anticipate staying ahead of schedule throughout the remainder of the project. We have been on a tight budget and we’ve been able to loosen it up a little to make the state requirements easier to meet. The state wanted certain electrical items over and above state regulations. They had been pushing for some security access card readers and security cameras where you hit a duress button and the camera would turn on and record what was going on in the court room.
Kitchen reported that all of the items the state wanted are now provided and they feel good about that. Right now they are working on getting the dry wall completed and the exterior glazing will begin on Oct. 7. Sahara will provide the guaranteed maximum price to the building authority. They are currently working on the parking lot for the courts building and the asphalt will be installed on Oct. 5 weather permitting. Grading has been completed as well as the installation of a retention pond.
The final bill has been submitted on the jail portion and Sahara will be returning $15,000 back to the county. Kitchen also explained that Ernie Jensen from Cleveland hadn’t submitted his bill on time due to a family emergency and he asked if it could be added on at this time. Jensen has completed his work on the courts building.
The next item on the agenda was the update on the incubator building. Commissioner Sitterud reported that during the last rain storm the roof had leaked like a sieve. Also Marlin Eldred, the economic development director for Emery County told Commissioner Sitterud that there is still some money left on the grant specifically for that building and suggested they repair the roof over the office area with those funds. Eldred was going to check with contractor Ken Stilson to look at the problem. Commissioner Sitterud also said that another tenant is looking at the building for business purposes and he will keep the board updated on the matter.
The next item on the agenda was the approval of the bills with the exception of holding back the Emery Telcom bill for over $50,000 to look into the matter further. This charge is in regards to the public safety complex.
The next item on the agenda was a motion made by Commissioner Hatch to table the previous meeting’s minutes until they have a chance to review them.
The next meeting will be held on Dec. 3, with no meeting scheduled in November due to the election.
