The Utah State Two-Handed and Individual Shows were held on Sept. 19, 20, and 21, in Farmington, at the Legacy Center.
On Thursday, Jade Jensen, Jesse Jensen, Tawn Jewkes, Kelby Farnsworth, and Cade Whittle competed on their young horses. They had to take a written test, then show in Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Reining, and Trail. Cade placed third on the test, third in Reining, and finished as Reserve All Around with a belt buckle and a pile of rosettes. Tawn placed fifth on the test and fifth in Showmanship, ending up sixth overall. Kelby, Jade, and Jesse all represented Emery County very well as they shoed their young horses.
On Sept. 20, the rest of the team showed up to compete against approximately 100 kids in each age division from all over the state. The judged events this year were: Fitting and Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, and Bareback Equitation.
On Saturday, these same kids and horses competed in speed events: Barrels, Poles, and Scurry. Emery County had several top 10 and top 20 awards. When all the points were totaled, we looked good and the rest of the state knew that we were there.
Juniors:
Meran Allred was 20th overall for the speed events, 13th in the judged events for an overall 9th place All Around finish.
Megan Allred finished 17th All Around with blue ribbons on the test and in events in both judged and speed.
AnnDee Adams made us all proud with a 2nd place test, 6th in Poles, 9th in Bareback, 17th overall in speed events and an 11th place overall.
Amy Jo Allen dazzled us with 10th place Scurry run and received blue ribbons in other events.
Jessee Jewkes placed 6th on the test and 6th in Horsemanship to end up 10th overall in judged events.
Intermediates:
Tawn Jewkes placed 8th on the test and had blue ribbons in Poles and Scurry to end up 7th in the speed events.
Cade Whittle was 4th on the test, 7th in Showmanship, and finished 16th in judged events. In Speed events, he finished in 19th place. This combined to give him a 7th place overall win.
McKay Allred, Kelby Farnsworth, and Lacey Branson all had a good show and represented Emery County with pride.
Seniors:
Amy Langston earned blue ribbons in all events. That consistency earned her a 4th place All Around finish against some of the best horses and young horsemen in the state.
Samantha Rudman, Laura Wright, Jesse Jensen, and Jade Jensen all did well and had personal best times and scores.
Between events and the awards program, a jackpot Four-in-a-Row contest was held. The “Jailbreaks” team consisting of Jesse Jensen, Amy Langston, Amy Jo Allen, and one of Amy Langston’s friends held a consistent lead until the last three teams. They finished third and came home with money to help cover their expenses.
