The National Conference for Community and Justice will present the 13th Annual “Thanksgiving Interfaith Service” on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City. The Interfaith Service has become a holiday tradition that precedes Thanksgiving and brings together the community’s diverse religious groups.
This year’s service will include a welcome from The Most Rev. George Niederauer, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Utah and various readings from clergy representing such religious groups as The Calvary Baptist Church, Congregation Kol Ami, The Episcopal Church, The Buddhist Community, The Baha’i Faith, The American Indian Spirituality Faith, The LDS Church, the Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Islamic Society. Mr. Tariq Kergaye of the Islamic Society of Utah will give the featured presentation. The Salt Lake Men’s Choir will also perform.
The NCCJ has organized the Interfaith Service since its inception. A different religious group hosts the Service each year. Dr. Joan Smith, Executive Director of the NCCJ of Utah commented, “The Interfaith Service is an opportunity for the entire community to offer prayers and wishes of thanks in a setting of mutual respect for different faith traditions.” The Thanksgiving Interfaith Service is free of charge and the public is welcome. Seating is limited. Visitors are also invited to bring nonperishable food items to the Service.
