Coach Duane Merrell took his Lady Spartans south for three big games against teams that were almost perfect. Snow Canyon was 9-1, Canyon View was 8-1 and Cedar City was 7-0 as they each prepared to take on the Emery Spartans.
On Thursday, Emery started off the three game road trip in Cedar City with a 36-33 loss. Emery outscored Cedar 17-4 in the first half of play and then led 28-17 after three quarters. The Spartans were then outscored 19-5 in the fourth quarter and Cedar City won. Natalie Hansen and McKell Huntington led the Spartans with eight points each.
On Friday, the Spartans stayed in Cedar City and lost to the Canyon View Falcons 39-27. Canyon View led at the half 11-9 and then used a big third quarter to go up 29-18. Emery was outscored by one in the fourth quarter. McKell Huntington again was the leading scorer in this game with nine points.
On Saturday, the Spartans traveled to St. George and lost to the Snow Canyon Warriors 40-23. Emery was down only by two at the end of the first quarter but managed only one point in the second quarter to be down 21-10. Emery was outscored in the second half 19-13 to suffer their fourth straight loss. Jennifer Nielson was the leading scorer in this game with nine points.
