Spardettes to Host Region Competition

The Spardettes will host the region drill team competition on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Spartan Center. Teams from around the region will be on hand for the event.Spardette members: Savanna Allred, Carrie Bell, Kisty Bawden, Jamie Hanson, Ashley Blake, Jessica Mason, Brayci Griffin, Ariane Tucker, Tatum Richetti, Karrie Johansen, Kristine Johansen, Chelsie Mead, Kaylynn Snow, Samantha Jones, Aubrey Jensen, Bradee Seely and Allison Ware. The team is coached by Nadene Hinkins.

The Lady Spartans of Emery High School were 1-1 in their first week of region basketball play. After a narrow three-point loss at Carbon High on Tuesday, the Lady Spartans came back with a strong game to defeat the Delta Rabbits 43-34 on Thursday.
Emery started region play against the Lady Dinos and lost a heartbreaker 52-49.
Emery held the lead after each of the first three quarters but was outscored 23-10 in the fourth quarter to lose by three. Jennifer Nielson led the Emery attack with 16 points. McKell Huntington had 15 points and Natalie Hansen had 11. Morgan Warburton led Carbon with 20 points as she now assumes the role of scorer for the Dinos after her sister, Chelsey, went down for the season with ligament damage.
The Lady Spartans came back two nights later against Delta High and won this game by nine points.
Emery led 27-10 at the half and held on to win despite of being outscored in the fourth quarter 13-6. Jennifer Nielson again was the leading scorer with 19 points. The Spartans are now 6-6 for the season.
