The Pioneer Museum in Castle Dale recently had new windows installed. Volunteers have been painting and finishing the installation to ready the museum for their reopening. The museum, located upstairs in the Castle Dale City Hall building has undergone some renovations with the help of Janet Petersen and some grant money from the Office of Historic Services.
Petersen applied for and received a $6,000 grant to do the work at the museum. The original windows in the building were badly deteriorated and needed to be replaced. Petersen, along with Kathleen Truman who had a $6,000 grant from Historic Preservation Society, put their grants together for double the impact to the museum.
The grants were in-kind grants, which meant the receivers would put in the same amount of money or labor hours. Several volunteers came together to do the work painting the windows and clean the entire museum. Drapes were taken down, cleaned and reinstalled. The museum is now being readied for the upcoming tourist season with a thorough spring cleaning.
S & V Glass of Orangeville, a local glass company, was awarded the bid to install the windows. They also replaced one door with a window to ensure better safety measures for the museum. The new windows are in line with the historical quality and architecture of the building.
The Pioneer Museum renovation project will be finished during the third week in January. They will open for business as usual during the last week of the month.
