AnnDee Adams kicks up the dust while cornering a barrel at the Old Spanish Trail Arena in Moab.

Local cowgirl AnnDee Adams is making her mark in the red dirt of the Old Spanish Trail Arena. A tough competitor in open competion Adams holds her own against the professionals and women with years of experience four times her age. Winning the Youth 1D on Sunday with a smoking time of 15.636 in the Open race, Adams elected to carry over her time and save her horse for other races. The carry over decision was a good one giving Adams the 1D win in the youth. The lone runner in the Youth 2D on Saturday, Adams collected her winning 2D check for her time of 16.194.
Not to be outdone by her older sister, little Teigan Adams made certain to collect her share of the winnings as well. Finishing 2nd in the 4D against a very fast pace Teigan finished the cloverleaf pattern with a time of 18.064 on Saturday.
Saturday’s Open 1D was won by five-time NFR qualifier Becky Carson, of Fruita, Colo. on “Honor” with a 15.283. Carson showed speed and consistency as she finished 2nd in the 1D on Sunday with a very fast time of 15.232.
The inaugural run for 2003 Futurity horses was Dec. 1, while no actual futurity was scheduled for the Arches Series those in attendance did witness a couple of outstanding first timers. Barbara Merrill of Axtell made a smoking run of 15.439 on her Futurity horse Hat D Doc to finish one out of the money in the 1D on Sunday. Sonya Madsen of Honeyville also made an impressive first effort running a 16.459 to finish just out of the 3D money.
