Canyon View Junior High Top Cat Achievers

Nearly 100 students from Canyon View Junior High School were recently honored as Top Cat Achievers for second term. To become a Top Cat Achiever, Canyon View students need to excel in academics, attendance, citizenship and community service. Also honored as Top Cat Achievers are honor roll students and those who attain an extraordinary numberof accelerated reader points.
The Top Cat Awards party was held on Jan. 20, and featured a program presented by Emery High School Sterling Scholars and advisor Neal Peacock. The sterling scholars met with the Top Cats in small groups and talked to them about the sterling scholar program, life in high school and how to prepare for the next level of education. More than anything else, the sterling shcolars encouraged the junior high students to get nvolved in a variety of programs while in junior high and to carry that participation into high school as well.
Canyon View Principal Larry Davis said, “The sterling scholars are certainly role models for these younger students and what they had to say made a lot of sense. It was good for our students to hear this message from kids they look up to.”
Sterling scholars participating in the program were: Meagan Rogers, general scholarship; Allie Mangum, English; Bethany Peacock, speech/drama; Melissa Wilson, social science; Cadence Tuttle, music; Jeremy Gilbert, math; Michelle Johansen, business; Leo Wright, science; Kelsie V. Anderson, foreign language; Becky Wright, art; and Natalie Larsen, family and consumer science.
The Top Cat program included the presentation of achievement certificates and prizes. Also, those students earning the most points in each class were honored. They are: Zachary Clement, seventh grade; Camille Fehlberg, eighth grade; and Patrick Fehlberg, ninth grade.
The Canyon View Top Cat program is funded in part by an academic grant from Emery Telcom.
