Margaret Garavaglia


HELPER – Margaret Roselane Rigby Garavaglia, age 84, passed away Feb. 12, 2003 at her home.
Born Dec. 2, 1918 in Fairview, to Joseph Clark and Vida Turpin Rigby. Married Vincent Garavaglia Feb. 18, 1948 in Provo. He died July 17, 1996.
Member of the Catholic Church. Graduate of Salt Lake General Nursing School in 1941. Upon graduation, Margaret moved to Carbon County where she worked at the Carbon Hospital until 1949. After that time, she returned to work as a special duty nurse for many years. In 1965 she began working for Dr. Demman as an office nurse and she continued working in his office prior to her retirement in 1980.
Margaret was heavily involved in many community service projects. She served on the board of directors of the Western Mining and Railroad Museum in Helper, where she was a contributor and volunteer until the time of her passing.
Survived by two sons, John (Jeannie) Garavaglia, Golden, Colo.; Edward (Cindy) Garavaglia, Albuquerque, N.Mex.; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael and Amanda; sisters, Ann Wells, Salt Lake City; Nell Mattison, Spanish Fork; Zella Foreman, Butte, Mont.; and brother, Jewel Rigby, Spanish Fork. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Virgil, Aaron and Gene; and sister, Fanny.
Funeral Mass was Feb. 17 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Elaine Rasmussen Swaggerty


Elaine Rasmussen Swaggerty, 80, died Feb. 12, 2003 at her home in Summerville, S.C. She was born April 2, 1922 in Ferron, a daughter of Oscar and Evelyn Rasmussen.
She attended schools in Carbon County while living in Kenilworth until her senior year when the family moved back to Ferron and she graduated from South Emery High School in 1940. She attended St. Marks school of nursing and became a registered nurse, working for a time at Carbon Hospital before joining the Army nurse corp.
Elaine married Earl Swaggerty on Feb. 24, 1946, and a daughter, Cathy was born to them. Earl died Mar. 28, 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, grandson Derek, granddaughter Jennifer and son-in-law Steve, all of Charleston, S.C., also survived by a sister Helen (Keith) Wright, Clawson and a sister-in-law, Mary Rasmussen of San Diego, Calif. Preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Norman.

Nick Eaquinta


PRICE – Our beloved son, father, brother and friend, Nicholas Basil Eaquinta was tragically taken from us on Feb. 14, 2003.
Born Dec. 12, 1959 in Price to Dominic and Glorya Winiski Eaquinta. He married Denise Powell at Flaming Gorge.
He worked for UP&L for 19 years at the Huntington and Carbon Power Plants and transferred to St. George in 1987. Nick had a flair for life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, cycling and landscaping. Most of all he loved his sons and family.
Survived by mother, Glorya Eaquinta of Price; Denise and two sons, Colin and Cade of St. George; brother, Pete (Lynette) Eaquinta and family of Helper; uncle Bob and aunt Charlotte, Bobby, Cody and Danny Pike, all of Price; nephew, Michael and niece, Misty. Preceded in death by father; grandparents, Basil and Bella Winiski.
Memorial service Friday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
