Point of View

By GARY ARRINGTON

Just like that, it’s over. No more ball games. Not boys, not girls, no state tournament, nothing. So unexpected, too bad. This was really an enjoyable year.
Now that the season is over, I can lose my superstitions and mention a few of the things that I noticed this year, some of the things that really stood out to me.
The coaching at Emery High was superb. I was really impressed with the coaching jobs that both head coaches did this year. The games plans and the adjustments during the games were solid. We are lucky to have such coaching.
Jennifer Nielson and MacKell Huntington just seem to flow on the court. It seemed like they were always under control, that nothing really flustered them on the court.
Curt Jensen just seemed to play hard each and every time he was on the court. It was fitting that he was the leading scorer in Emery’s playoff game.
The Lady Spartans started a sophomore and a freshman. The first players off the bench were often another sophomore and freshman. This bodes well for the next couple of years.
On the boy’s team, with maybe one exception, everybody who played was a legitimate 3-point threat.
Casey Murray and Zeke Atwood always added excitement to games with their blocked shots.
Bowie Jeffs, because he was the coach’s son, had to play harder to appease some people because he was the coach’s son. Jeffs is a special player that happens to make each of his teammates better.
Chandler Pearson and Jeffs should realize that the 3-point line is often much closer in than where they are.
Brandon Hansen, who started at point guard for the Emery sophomore team two years ago, had to sacrifice his game to play the post for the short Spartans this year.
Referees seem to be getting worse instead of better and are easier to tick off.
Some fans should really get a better understanding of the game before they spout off, either to the refs or the coaching staff.
3-A Boys Predictions
Wasatch over Bear River Wasps, a more talented team.

Judge over Morgan, Sasich might be best player.
Pine View over North Sanpete, Pine View is the best team? Lehi over Wasatch, seniors over juniors. Pine View over Judge, more depth, height.

3-A Girls Predictions
